Digital Zeiss Ikon

Hi

Anyone heard of anything?

Before I take the plunge into an RD1s.

It will be announced next Tuesday. I'm not supposed to say anything, but I'd hate to see you spending money on an Epson and then find the new Digital Zeiss Ikon on the market.

Remember - next Tuesday.

Yeah, I heard that too. Next Tuesday, Zeiss will launch the new Digital Zeiss Ikon.

Thanks everyone. I will watch out for next Tues.

I will get me self a RD1s and buy another Zeiss Ikon digital after next Tues.

I just know that everyone's so helpful in this forum, especially the ones in Zeiss.

But for the people really in the know, you can download a copy of the camera a day or two before it comes out ;)

Ok enough of that. There is NO Zeiss Ikon Digital expected any time soon. Later maybe, but not now.

I e-mailed Zeiss a couple of weeks ago. An international sales rep responded, "Rest assured, Zeiss will be hard at work developing innovative new products [for next Tuesday]."

Note that I edited the quote for clarity.

I returned mine. Dang thing had an odd green color in the white areas. I hear there'll be a filter and firmware fix...but I just can't see spending that kind of money on a flawed product.

Leica will offer upgrades for this:

1200 EUR for the red dot
1800 EUR for a really nifty strap and a smaller sensor
3500 EUR for both upgrades

Expect 4-8 weeks turnaround.

You guys are too cruel. I think he took this thread seriously. If not, then the joke is on me.

But I did hear that a Yashica DGSN is on the horizon, after they market their Yashica D-Mat 124with a phase 1 back. This time the 124 refers to Mega pixels.

Yes, I think you are right. But the quote I posted above, minus the part about next Tuesday, is based on an actual e-mail from a Zeiss rep I received a couple of weeks ago. The gist was, yes, we're very interested in the digital thing, but it would certainly need to have a full-frame sensor and high pixel count to take advantage of our fabulously fabulous ZM lenses (have you tried them?). And it ain't gonna be bargain-priced. And it'll probably exist some time in the future, if not later.

So, to the thread-starter: go with the RD1. Even if Zeiss magically pops a digital wonder out in a few months time, I have little doubt you'll be happy you just went ahead and pulled the trigger.

Of course, now I'm ask myself, why haven't I got one?

I guys,

something true is that next Zeiss Ikon Digital will be surely FF. At least, this was the intention of Zeiss when released the "analog" model. Read at page 3 of the internet brochure:

When digital sensor technology takes another
leap or two, accepting the high incident angles
of a wide-angle M-mount lens to the corners of a
full format sensor, you can count on us to come
up with high performance digital systems that
will satisfy even the truly passionate. And your
Carl Zeiss T* ZM-mount lenses will be ready.

Surely Sony could help, here (as Nikon or Canon could), but THIS is speculation. If I were you, I'd wait at least till photokina and at most till next PMA.. I'm almost persuaded that something is boiling in Zeiss cauldron...
