disabling infinity lock on Kiev 4

Anyone know a quick and or easy way to disable infinity lock on a Kiev 4? Infinity lock has to be the most annoying and pointless "features" I've ever seen on a camera, maybe I'm missing the point of it, but I've never been in a situation where I've thought "wow, I'm so glad my lens locked into position like that!"

If you have a J9, J11 or J12, the infinity lock is useful when mounting one of these lenses.

Disable it quickly, easily and reversibly with the lower lug -- the one that's pushed aside by the collar on lenses other than 50mm, beside the lens mount on the lower left as you look at the front of the camera. Wedge it open with a small piece of wood, such as a toothpick.

A piece of plastic sleeving in the same place as Roger suggests will also do the trick. I too find the lock annoying but, as Ed S has noted, it's very useful when swapping lenses!

Somehow the point seems to be missed that lens changing was the REASON for the infinity lock. It wasn't to lock the lens at infinity. (What would be the point of that??) Some lenses won't go on the camera body unless the lens is at infinity. It has to do with the rangefinder coupling. Disabling the thing just might be a mistake.

Or it might not. I've had several Kievs, and I've also disabled the infinity lock on my 50/1.2 Canon.

No problems so far. When I change lenses on a Kiev, I pull the toothpick out!

I have gotten used to the infinity locks on my Kiev4AM and several Canon RF lenses. It's become second nature to just press the button before turning the lens to focus. Not really a big deal for me like it was when I first got the Kiev. Patience, and you might overcome this as well!
