so i went back to the park where i had taken the shot of the tree with heart & initials within.
and someone of questionable heritage (sob) had removed the bark and left a naked heart shape.

i was not happy. there even was a woman sitting alone by the table in the background.

too bad, maybe i should have moved quicker.

If you had had a Leica with you you could probably still have made the shot.

:D

I had a similar experience just today: I went back to a location that I photographed before using a Rollei TLR. I wanted to retake the picture using a rangefinder so I could use it maybe for the book. The image was of a rustic wooden shed standing next to a tree. Both the shed and the tree were markedly leaning away from each other.

Today I found that the tree had been cut down!

bummer!

but for me maybe i'll learn to stick around and take more than 1 shot from only one angle or one exposure.

p.s. frank, i just bought a canon 135/3.5 on ebay.

Yeah, the world keeps changing, and you just cannot expect things to be the same when you go back later. I've been caught a few times by unexpected change, and then resolved not to delay the next time! And there've been some times to be glad I didn't!
