If a thread appears on the front page, which you find very distastefull, you could choose any one thread below it and give it one bump. Then if a lot of people felt this way the thread would soon disappear of the front page.

Apologies to Joe and Jorge if this is inappropriate. (but you don't have to notice this !)

I suppose one could also not look at it, the equivalent of turning off the TV instead of complaining to the cable company. But whatever works.

Is there some thread you currently find objectionable?

Best Regards,

Bill Mattocks

More often than not, I participate (and therefore bump) threads in which I am interested. Otherwise... I won't.

However, Hektor's suggestion doesn't sound rude. In fact, bumping ANY other thread will soon dislodge the "offending" one from the front page.

Bill, well yes, but I don't want to make a thing out of it. It'll probably go away.
I thought I detected that Gman and Joe Friday felt the same way too. If that's true they have my support. If not, my mistake, no worries.

Huck, you,re probably right. - I've said my piece, I'll shut-up and not look.

RFF is a nice place........best we say no more.

Well, if I've offended, I hope someone will drop me a PM and let me know what I've done this time. It is generally not my intent.

What are distasteful threads? Some may find Zorkis distasteful. Some may find that a really bad repaint job on a Kiev is distasteful. Others may think that a Fuji 645 rangefinder is distastefully huge.

What are we talking about here? I don't have the deciphering key, so I'm oblivious to what you are referring to.

I have been guilty of bumping threads to get my 2 cents in...though the more I think about it thr more I come to realize that the world can get by without my comments, which usually aren't that interesting anyways.

ah well...this is indeed a great place, and I feel lucky to have found it.

Am I guessing rightly that it's that spam thread from the guy that wants to by cameras here? 😉
My assumption as well. I agreed with G-Man's thoughts...I had to run some errands and when I returned I was going to suggest that we take up any further discussion of the "I want your good camera cheap. com" subject on another thread, just to get his URL off the front page. Perhaps this thread is doing just that.

I know spam is distasteful, specially if you eat it raw...but is that really what we're really talking about here? I doubt a "spam thread" is a "distasteful thread".

I'm scanning the threads and I can't seem to see anything; spelling/grammar mistakes, nonsentences and such, yeah, but that's hardly distasteful...

Ah, I see. See, I wasn't reading the thread, so I didn't notice. And hence, was not fashed unduly. But hey, whatever. If it makes Joe mad, I'm against it - we need a happy healthy Joe.

Perhaps I used the wrong word "distastefull", I am a Brit and sometimes thing don't translate quite right. I'm also pretty broadminded and definately not easily offended.

I saw a thread which I thought was a deliberate abuse of the spirit and facility of RFF. B A Joe said it was "pushing it", Gman said he didn't like it's continued presence on the front page, Joe Friday said it was "tacky", to me it was "distasteful" in that it showed very poor manners and abuse of RFF membership.

I just wanted to suggest a method, a bit like not talking to someone and walking away, where if many people felt the same way, by a small individual act, then collectively the effect would be to put the thread off the page. If only one or two felt that way then the effect would be almost nil.

I really don't want to add to, or escalate this matter as the thread had gone away when last I looked. I just thought it was a useful collective technique.

End of discussion for me... I hope you understand.

I hadn't even paid mind to that thread before I read this one, but now that I've gone through it I'd like to bump this up in support also. It's spam clear as day, and a "doofus" of a guy to boot.
