Distasteful Threads

I actually tried to cut the guy some slack and try to get him involved in the community before pursuing his commercial venture.. what with my joke about the GSN.. it was also intended to be a clue to him that we know exactly what's going on in the RF market.. he just plodded on in his charming oblivious manner

actually, it was his comment about how he 'could' become a sponsor, but didn't think it was worth paying for, that made things go sour.. talk about a bag of hammers

Anyone who wants to sell to him can go to his website and do the deal outside RFF.

If he wants to attract business to his website he can sponsor a commercial ad just like KB, Cameraquest, Robert White, and others.

I wonder if he has spoken to Jorge as requested, he is certainly still trying to chat on other threads.

And I think what you did was straight on correct and it did prove to be the "turning point" for me and I believe others.

Unlike when I tried my webitrage a few years ago (in a different activity, mind you) the websites I "trolled" did not then think to seek advertiser/sponsors (we were all so much more innocent then....) such as RFF has here with Cameraquest etc.

Now we're all wiser (and unfortuately, older) and Joe Friday "rang the bell" by asking the fellow to help sponsor the site.

Cyberspace does't come "free" and Jorge has to pay the bills. Truth be told I'm glad Jorge''s willing to put up with all the grief involved - I sure as heck wouldn't!

I was surprised, actually, that "I want to buy..." didn't hold off from further solictiating after Joe Friday posed his query.

Not because he wouldn't go away. But because he seems to want to be a web-based entrepreneur (after all, he is setting up his own website which is more that I ever did a few years ago) and yet doesn't understand the concept of web-based "link" advertising.

I just hope he's young and has time to learn how it should be done. I fear he's older and despartely clued out. As obnoxious as he is - I don't wish him ill fortune.

Business can be as complicated or as simple as you want to make it: the simple approach is to treat people respectfully. When I was very young my Dad told me if I could just remember the Golden Rule I wouldn't have to worry about too much else (we don't have a melancholy "smiley," do we?).

Enough of my trying to "be rational" and turn the other cheek!

On a separate WTB thread I indicated I'd like to buy a Nikon SP (for me, at least, the holy grail of RF's).

Now this SOB Colin has hi-jacked the "thread"!

The guy is a plague!

Watch you manners? I haven't done anything to you?

So far two sellers have refused to sell here because of you. You have created a second/fake account to try to buy a camera for resell from one of those sellers.

If you want to get into this as a business, you might want to start acting like a professional.

Well he did do something to you, and all the rest of us as well !

He deliberately told lies with the intention to deceive so as to participate in financial transactions with RFF members.

Fortunately Back alley Joe spotted his deception and made an appropriate response, (this was in the recent xpan for sale thread in the classifieds)

I think this guy didn't care about RFF'ers enough to be honest, truthful and straightforward. - I know how I feel about those issues.

Bertram - your avatar cracks me up!

On a more serious vein, since joining the forum I have purchased through Forum members one lens (J3), and separately a camera with two lenses (OT Zeiss). Prices were reasonable, there was no haggling, and I got what I expected, or perhaps hoped for. Transactions were both completed with no pressure or fuss, and there was clearly trust on both sides, and clear recognition on the vendor's part of my chronic GAS. Most especially though, I got the sense that this is a community with a sense of community; and that this is the value to be preserved IMO. Knowing that you will not get screwed in some way or another is very worthwhile.

meek etc

meek etc

"IMHO the meek shall inherit the earth, if it is allright with you, and if you would like to GIVE me all your "OLD" cameara stuff, I will happily look after it in the way it should be looked after"

I know it is easy to criticise, and I know the value of having confidence in doing a deal on the web. I can see in this community that there is that confidence and anything that diminishes that confidence should be dis-encouraged. Possibly a method of dealing with situations like this is to ask/point out the obvious so anyone who might be preparing to do a deal with a disadvantage, could be enlightened as to the possible consequences of the deal.

Thanks to all who have helped me on my quest for searching for a solution.

Good common sense advice, Brian (funny how it is often lost or not realized 🙂). Those that have been here for any length of time have seen the forum go through a significant increase in membership and occasionally some growing pains along the way, but the wonderful spirit of the forum thrives on. I have every faith this will continue and I do not believe any of us will allow anything to change this. My thought for the day...now I can take the rest of the day off. 😀

'Cause it "bumps" the thread further up the page.

Don't forget that if you want to use bump to make a thread go down the page you must bump another one which is lower down, so that it overtakes and pushes the first one down.

oops ! I shouldn't say these things.

and a bump....

and a bump....

Just another bump, to keep everything mellow. I'm thrilled because I just got what looks like a jewel of a Contax IIIa. And I'm a Canon collector, but I do have the occasional yen for something classic. I own a IIa and a III with broken ribbons, and this new one fits nicely into the shooter bag.
Now if it would only stop raining!!!! :bang: I'm in New England, near some more floods... Can just imagine what this has done to the fall leaf people, and the places that depend on that tourist money.
Quite a bump...

Sorry to hear it's still raining in MA. Finally cleared up here in NY (not to rub it in, but the last two days have been classic autumn beauties).

Read on CNN about the bulging dam in Tauton (?). Hope you're not nearby.

Sorry to stray OT.
