Thanks chaps ... it was a great to be told of the response to the families posts at what was a really dark time, and humbling to receive all these good wished ever since.
I've had a respiratory illness for almost five years now after picking up tuberculosis, of all things (and a fact which in my opinion proves I am the great artist I've always claimed to be, almost every artist I admire had TB at some point) the TB leaves me open to catching other nasty bugs. Back in November I got a seasonal cold and while being treated for that I picked up Pseudomonas, a bacteria and one of the nasty ones to boot.
I don't recall much of the ten days that followed, and much of what I do recall must be down to the medication ... I've made notes in case I need some surrealist ideas in the future, or need a plot for a short story or two. At one point a helicopter-ambulance landed nearby, and I went on to spend the a couple of days in an episode of MASH, a fact latter confirmed by one of the nurses who had to sort out the tubing I'd mistaken for a winch cable, and played the part of Hot-Lips Houlihan.
Anyway they obviously pumped me full of the right drugs as I came round eventually. Sadly ten days of immobility at my age leaves one very weak, and for the moment I'm restricted to just the upper floor of the house and then only active for short periods, both rules I'm treating more as guidelines than rules ... well it is Christmas and I'm easily bored.
So I'm home, have the family treating me like royalty and have a stash of meds most of which have a street value. For the future; we're getting a lift fitted and I have a trainer/physiotherapist coming after the new year to start the rehab, so life isn't too bad at the moment ... unfortunately the underlying respiratory illness is incurable and will get me eventually a fact I intend ignoring in regard to my recuperation, so once again ...
... thank you, one and all for your kind words and wishes, they are very much appreciated
