DIY adjustments on the rd-1S

Hey all,

I've noticed that many are doing their own rangefinder adjustments on these guys. Is that the same with the RD-1s? Thanks in advance!

They should be the same, yes. There's no mechanical difference between the R-D 1s and R-D 1.

If you do find any differences vs. the photos and instructions that have been posted in various threads here, please post and let us know about them!

I do remember a thread that show one major difference: One of the adjustments screws is fixed on the R-D1s

According to a friend who has aligns this RF and others, it is combination of a poor design and less than robust (i.e., read filmsy) components.

When it works it works perfectly well but an out-of-alignment RF on the R-D1 (and CV Bessa's) is just a knock away and almost certainly will happen to any of these cameras that gets serious use sooner or later.

I'm going in after the new year to learn from my friend the ins and outs of RF alignment so I can DIY whenever and whereever I am.

The rangefinder looks well made to me but there is linkage and such so they do need tuning up once in a while. Epson/CV are not the only RF cameras with alignment needs, read the other forms.

Every now and then my Zorkis need a little tweaking and they're pretty robust mechanisms.

Sorry to repeat it but this is not true, at least with my own R-D1 and R-D1s copies.
With the R-D1s, the screw dedicated to RF vertical alignment has not the same orientation and is smaller that that of the R-D1.
Also that screw is now inactive so that i cannot adjust vertical alignment after removing the hot shoe any more.
Sean Reid suggested that some R-D1s bodies could be different to others, i don't know.
I can only state that my R-D1 and R-D1s bodies are not the same from this standpoint and that i've been forced to send in my R-D1s for a mere vertical misalignment that i would have adjusted myself in 10 minutes on the R-D1.

Mr Kobayashi seems to think differently. It's not for nothing the first CV Bessas (The L and, a little later, the R) were introduced in 1999 together with the CV 25/4. And the CV line-up, from 12mm and 15mm to 28mm and 35mm also seem to indicate differently.
