That's a drop of liquid electrical tape applied with a toothpick. It seems to be holding up pretty well, I guess time will tell how often the stuff will need to be reapplied. The flare problem is definitely fixed though.

I know it doesn't bother some people, but the M7 flare really annoys me. Mine flares indoors even when there aren't any light sources near the subject and makes focusing extremely difficult for me. I tried using the Leicagoodies SHADE, but it fell off and I lost it after about 3 months of use. Plus it makes the framelines pretty dim. DAG charges $250 for the upgrade, Youxin doesn't work on the M7, and I'm not sure how much Leica charges. Eventually I may go with a permanent fix but for now I'm happy with the liquid tape.

I had the upgrade on my old M6 that got stolen. My new one is out with Sherry getting it now. Does anyone know what the actual upgrade involves? I know that if I don't have it, M6s become almost impossible for me to focus in certain situations.

Glad to hear that a budget fix seems to be working. Wouldn't mind giving it a try some time.

How much does Sherry charge for a VF upgrade?

quoting from the link above, "According to Gerry Smith at Kindermann (Canada) & Leica NJ, the upgrade does not replace your entire VF mechanism, it merely replaces the frame mask sub-assembly with a new one which has a MP condenser lens built in."
