So from a previous thread it seems that a Contax-I just isn't worth trading for a Contax-II. Kinda like trading yer left hand for a spoon. Albeit limited uses, but you gotta be a bit insane to do such a thing.

I have that beautiful Contax II with collapsible Sonnar 50/2, and the camera has a aftermarket/factory-added flash sync ((NOT A KIEV)). I paid £250 for it, perfect working order, and has two takeup spools (one Contax, and a Kiev one I bought in case).

So here's my question, will I get anywhere near that price if I resell it? I don't mind dropping a bit below, or swallowing the cost of nextday courier postage in the UK for example...

Just seems a terrible shame to leave the camera sat on the shelf, but I'm just not using it at all. Last time was Chinese New Year, and a few days later I got an M2. I want to get my LF kit sorted so I have everything I need to take a camera out and shoot 4x5 in the field, not leave the stuff in the living room :bang:

Hey, maybe some of the money might even go to having a proper darkroom so I don't get streaks or dust spots on my negs anymore!!!
 
try the Classifieds, Ash. Should be not a big problem to sell, I guess.
I don't want yet another system, otherwise I would be tempted.
Or do I?
 
Right... tomorrow I might get Brian to help me with the Classifieds entry, as I can't place it there myself (no paypal).


£225 body + lens + filter step-up ring (from 40/42 whatever, up to 49) sound good then???

BASS is merely a complication of GAS, & I did not mean to be cruel, it is the only problem I don't have, you have not seen the hoods I collect... I ment to tease Joe, (sorry Joe).

I dont think it will sell quick, you will have to be patient, if you paid that in a shop, you will have to think about cheaper as well. I'd take it off your hands if I did not have an identical synched one and two others in as factory condition, sorry. If either spool says Kiev I'll buy separately, or swap for one that says Contax, please PM, see previous para.

A Contax I can be unreliable and need TLC (>GBP), they are (or more correctly they were always) shelf cameras, the IIs were used by fleet street and real photogs, and are pretty rugged. You probably need a CV 35, 28 or 24mm for the M2 instead... If you are going to collect Is then you need one from each batch as they were all different.

The step ring is a 40.5 to 49mm, Brian might want it...
 
I bought it from ebay for £250. Dealers seem to be charging about that body only last time I checked.

I have an original Contax take-up spool with it, but I also have the Kiev one as a spare.


I'm not too keen on wide lenses. They don't suit the type of shooting I'm currently
doing.
 
Right, so Brian has just pm'd me.

I might be able to swap my Contax for a Leica IIIc + Canon 50/1,8.

The Leica had a short stay with me, and the Canon lens was also previously mine! The Canon lens is pristine.

So here comes the next problem - will someone want a Leica IIIc + Canon 50/1,8?? for a little under £250?? :D :D
 
And would someone buy my Kiev 4. Jupiter-9, Jupiter-12, Zorki 3 and Zeiss Sonnar 5cm if I buy the leica IIIc ? :D

Just joking... I'm broke... but if I had the money I'd take it ;)

I must have had a 'senior moment',just played with the 111c again and couldn't let it go,even for a Contax 11 !

Good man Brian, I was hoping you'd see sense when your fingers touched that beauty :D

Contax has some interest, but still for sale. Still deciding if it's the best idea to sell anyway!
