I recently got my M6 TTL top plate changed to a black top which I bought from DAG. Now I have an extra top plate and have been looking in to trying my hand at painting.
Now the question is my extra top plate brass? The S/N for the camera is 2547XXX. It isn't listed on the cameraquest list of serial numbers, so I'm assuming it's a late run model after Leica switched back to brass from zinc. Although, this top plate is a victim to the bubbling finish flaw (which is why I'd like to paint it), which I read on the Leica FAQ http://leica.nemeng.com/042b.shtml that this is a result of the zinc corroding under the chrome plating. Conflicting this even more is on the inside of the top there is a slight tint of some brass colored metal coming through the chrome. 😕 Are there any other indications of the material of this plate just by build characteristics?
