Do I send in the warranty cards for new lenses?

Thanks to the helpful advice from this forum, and the exceptional customer service offered by Tony at Popflash.com, I have gone ahead and bought an M8, together with three Leica lenses.

The cards with the lenses say that the 3 Year Passport Protection and Limited Warranty is not transferable, and that I have to send the card in within 30 days of purchase. Am I right in assuming that there is no reason not to send in the cards? If I decide to sell the lenses, then the warranty won't transfer to the new owner, but the new owner would be too late to send the card in anyway!

I assume that here in the US, there would be some sort of statutory warranty that would still be available to a purchaser of a used lens, or am I missing something?

I did a search, but didn't find a thread addressing this issue. Forgive me if I am going over old ground.

David.

Why don't you ask Tony?

Leica squashed the USA Passport program (IIRC it was effective January 1) and it was my understanding Leica has even stopped accepting the Passport certificates effective April 1.

I would call Leica service in NJ about your warranty details. It is common practice for a seller to agree to help a buyer who purchases a warrantied item if "under warranty" is stated as a selling point. (The seller will offer to forward a defective item to Leica on behalf of the buyer.)
