Do Iphone exposure meters really work?

I use the LightMeter app periodically. Aside from annoyances with the interface, it works well enough for me. If I'm shooting seriously, I usually use a dedicated meter. iPhone metering is more of a 'verifying what I think the light is' tool when I'm shooting casually.

Many of the apps over complicate it. Others work, but have more complex interfaces. My only complaint about LightMeter is that it doens't seem to save the 'locked' setting. I want to set the iso to something specific and have it remember. And I want it to remember which setting I'm calculating.

Other apps seemed like they were either too complicated or more buggy, though I'm sure there are other good ones out there.

Akiva, i have used these quite a bit over the past year...too bad i started after getting a twinmate 208, they are VERY good. and very easy to use.

Pocket Light Meter app seems the most reliable. It allows for spot metering and has a hold button. Going to try it out on my M3 clone (Yashica YF) this week.

I couldn't tell. I downloaded one and everytime I tried to use it the program would crash. I deleted it and went back to eyeing it 🙂

I downloaded the Pocket Light Meter the other day and overall, I was pleased with it. I tested its metering against my D3 and found that it was pretty accurate. It had some minor bugs (e.g., no matter what aperture I set, when I tap the aperture button it would default to f/5.6). An update was just released and it seems to have fixed all the bugs. And for only $1 to get rid of the ads, it's well worth it.
