A long time ago, people would have photoblogs. As in, a website dedicated to the pictures they took. Here's an old example... Chromasia:

Does anyone have photoblogs anymore? Or, what is the modern substitute? Flickr, facebook, instagram, tumblr, youtube, etc?

Enquiring minds want to know!

EDIT: please post your photoblog, if you have one!

Instagram is my main tapestry of my photography works. It used to be Flickr before it all changed.

There is a new kid on the block for him shooters called Newgrain. Unsure if they’ve developed the app for android yet though

I still have and write on mine, started many years ago in the summer of 2011: the quiet photographer.

Of course things change, our world changes included the photographic environment and i also changed.
I have now less interest in photography compared to a few years ago in this is reflected in the blog as well, less photocentric and more about hiw daily life and personal moods influence my photography.

The few comments I receive, included some people who do not comment on the blog but send me mail make it worthwhile for me to go on.

Out of my own personal convictions I am not on FB and IG and use the Flickr account mainly for the twice a year Roidweek event (yes, I love Polaroid!).

You could phlog here at RFF.
I did it once for Canada link is in my signature.
And do another for Europe currently.
But cherish RFF audience over unknown masses.
Plus, it is much more easier than trashy WordPress or wasting money on separated web site.
And while on RFF I receive and look at updates from another phlogs. Like Warsaw Daily and so on.
We even have no photos blog here from NY nearby.

So. if needed I will pay some subscrition, membership fee for RFF to run and host. Good company is worth it rather than unknowns.
Leica forum and Phortio have it

When I started my M2 one camera/one lens project in late 2023 I created a Wordpress blog: John Wolf – M2 Journal. I posted to running galleries by quarter. Then it morphed into this strange hybrid blog/website thing. Not sure what I'll do with it going forward.

I don't have any interest in writing about photography, which is what most blogs seem to be. Nor do I care about branding or audience-building. I like RFF, but friends and family will never visit here and they are my main audience interest.

I'm now playing around with Substack. I love it as software, but it's really a writer's platform. I created a few posts to see if I can use it just to share work (photos and poems). Still deciding whether or not to go forward. Have a look here: Snapshot Poetics | John Wolf | Substack. Feedback welcome.

I started a blog back in 2006 which I still update monthly and I post my news and all sort of updates. Now it has become a large diary which recorded all major events. Recently I had to switch it to private due to the amount of spam I was receiving. That is https://bpxper.blogspot.com/

The ones I have still public is the one where I post my pictures and I update it 3-4 times a year (The Monochrome Archives) and one that I write a bit about my cameras and gets updated whenever I buy something (The Film Retriever).

Want thank all those that took the time to check out my blog - My Midwest.
Hope that each of you found / something / interesting / informative enough to return and view future entries.
As always, welcome suggestions / ideas that would improve the blog.
Once again, thanks for viewing

I've read The Film Retriever a few times when researching what camera to buy next, it's full of hands on real life experiences and can't beat that, so many thanks. :)

Looking back, many of my RFF posts are essentially photo blog entries, just spread across RFF. The audience here is great, with pleasant and knowledgeable interactions, so I'm not about to abandon this place to go start a blog. Years ago, the notion of creating a photoblog crossed my mind, but the work needed to set it up, maintain it with posts etc, seemed a bit much.

I used to follow one of the more popular photoblogs,

www.hunkabutta,com

the online photo journal of a Western man living in Japan. His work wasn't hugely creative, but it was visually pleasing, and a heartfelt look into how a Westerner approached life in Japan. He began in 2001 and stopped in 2004, fairly shortly after moving back to Canada, but the site remains up. After years of silence, he appeared again, this time on YouTube, singing covers.

As far as where all the action is now, it seems Instagram is where it's at. There are soooo many IG accounts which are photoblogs of people's lives.

Blogs are sooo much work! Setting them up is a pain in the obvious place, maintaining them eats up many hours that could be put to better use, and the donkey work one has to do to drive viewers to the site is, well, a waste of time, at least for me.

And again so many of THOSE web sites have small but important rules usually set in the smallest type fontt, that they are at liberty to make use of your photos after you post them, in any way they see fit. And nothing said about payment to the photographer for that.

I have alternated between setting up my own blog, and decided no after reminding myself that for me at this time in my life, it would be a work of vanity anyway.

Of course there remains the classic (and I'm certain familiar to everyone) conundrum of what to do with all those images...

I have a blog in my website where I post images – mainly photos but also drawings, sketches, paintings. Local news and events too. Also links to music, and small fragments of text or poetry that called my attention. It’s an erratic mix of blog, journal notebook and graphic diary. Not a “photoblog” in the strict sense of the concept
