Do we want random pics at the top of the landing page like in old rff?

First there were complaints about it being thjere, then there complaints about it not being there. So do we want random pics on the top of the landing page?
 
Agreed with Jordan. I liked the pictures, but the pool they came from seemed a limited subset of everything in the gallery.

On the other hand, I often use the RFF gallery to post pictures for use in technical threads, e.g. what's that splotch on my negs, so it would be great to have a way to flag one's posts as eligible for the Random gallery or not.
 
The random pics were coming from hall of fame which will grow over time. That can be modified just pick from the gallery
 
As long as they just take the place of the “Notice about the gallery and classifieds” box that’s up there now, and take up no more real estate than that, it would be okay. But, no more than that. If people want to see random pix from the gallery they can always…….go to the gallery. But please don’t encroach on the amount of space devoted to current threads that we’re able to see now.
 
Another vote for a random picture set.
But why not place it on the side?

yea. The HOF is a selection of really good stuff from the gallery but with over 250k images tpo go through it makes it hard. Some of the stuff there was just there as a filler untill HOF grows. Maybe i can pull most liked randomly. who knows ...
 
I miss two goofs for Green Party, cubby lady in dark corset and red hair, spots on face boy. Those were very consistent on «random» choice.
 
mp guy, what is it going to be about the old gallery links to the posts? i am not a frequent poster but am i the only one thinking thats the one of the main problems about the new forum?
 
Well, still pulling from HOF. PLEASE do not add borders to your pictures! Yea its no big deal but the borders are considered part of the image dimensions and skew the spacing when an image with borders is added. Thats another reason I pick from HOF. I don't allow images in HOF with borders. Not to mention, they look odd. Maybe a thin border but some images have a good 20 to 40% of the image as border which IMHO only good for print.

Speedy, please elaborate on links to post ... not quite understanding your question.

when i would like to post a photo to a topic, first i was uploading the photo to the gallery, then right click the photo then copy the url and go to the desired topic, post reply, insert image, paste url and it was ok.
now these posts dont contain any photo or url , all blank...

some people like me who dont use flickr, post like this, now dont have their picture presented in topics, for example check lynnb' s posts....
 
I just created a symbolic link to services from rffgallery. Now the image whows if you clickon the old links.
