Absolutely! I have a D800 and there are quite a few things that my M9 just won't do so I make use of both systems. My favorite 3 lens airshow kit is 35 Lux pre-A, 50 Lux ASPH and my 300 F4 AFS.

Normally I dont talk about it but if you ask: The D700 is the „instantpicturesupplement“ for my F2s. The girl for everything when i dont want to waste film. Abuse it for testshots, as notebook, for training and all the lower jobs for which i dont want to harass my F2 or S2. Honestly, it is a fine piece of picturetaking machine but it does not have the magic of an F2 or S2. Greetings from snowwhite Austria.

A good example of why I shoot a DSLR was last Thursday evening. I rarely shoot events and only for existing commercial clients otherwise I would have refused this shoot. I had a dinner and fashion show held in a large hotel ballroom. I had considered taking my M9 and Summilux glass along with my D800 and f2.8 zooms. I thought the 1.4 would serve well in this situation. I had to make candids of various guests and then shoot the fashion show. I know that usually the best you can do for lighting is a hand held flash. At the last minute I chickened out and decided to only take the Nikon gear along with a SB700, stand and umbrella. When I arrived I found the lights so dim I think I could have loaded 4x5 film holders without fogging my film. It was almost as dark as a darkroom with candles on each table. Nice atmosphere but terrible for shooting images. I started by using flash but quickly found it annoyed my subjects and blinded some. The only other thing to do was shoot available light which I did. What I did was crank up the ISO to 6400 and put on my 70-200 VRII. I was shooting the 1.5x crop because I just didn't need the file size. Fortunately I'm pretty steady and wound up shooting the evening mainly with this combo. My exposures hand held were on average 1/8 second at f2.8 @ ISO 6400. I was able to sit and prop up on a chair or my knee in many cases and pick off my subjects with the long glass. There were some lost due to subject motion but a very small percentage due to camera vibration or photographer motion. I also shot with my 16-35 f4 VR and had excellent results with it too.
As to the fashion show I found a good vantage point and set my SB700 and umbrella along with an extension cable up at good vantage point and used flash through the entire show. My lens for this was the 16-35mm. Out of hundreds of frames there wasn't a single missed exposure.
Without the excellent VR of these lenses the shoot would have been a disaster. I don't think there would have been a way to do this without VR and without high quality zooms. Even wide open and at ISO 6400 the images were amazing.

I presently have a D90 that I use fairly often with MF lenses. I'm also on the verge of purchasing a D600 for the high ISO and full frame advantages. The only thing holding me back is the possible need for full frame glass. I have plenty of manual focus lenses but only a few full frame AF and zoom lenses of the quality that would do the camera justice.
I still prefer using my Nikon FE and my Canon P over digital.

d 800 e Incredible high resolution camera with great results even at 6400 iso
I use film leica, and medium format folders, and soon a Norita 66. I also do quite a bit of slide film stereophotography, and large format when I get the time.

I've used Canons (300D, 400D and 5D classic) for Carnival fieldwork. They are all gone now. My last DSLR left is Leica Digilux 3.

Use an olympus e510. The viewfinder is a pain, but I find the 35mm macro is excellent and it's mainly for fieldwork and plant photos. It's good enough to get by with aplomb. I find the price of newer dslrs to be unpalatable, so for more serious work, it's medium format film.

For digital I mainly use a Panasonic GF1 but still occasionally use an old but trusty Olympus E1. Handling and images are superb although the pixel count is tiny by today's standards and high ISO sensitivity doesn't even exist. It's still great for a lot of situations though. I was just reading a thread about shutter noise, and it reminded me of how whisper quiet the E1 is in operation.

Just sold mine. Had enough of it. Lovely photos but crappy viewfinder and attracting too much attention to technicalities rather than the subject. Also had a problem with drange and color rendering, but nothing that could not be solved with 3 hours of pp. Sold it because I hate pp.

D700 and D3. No crappy viewfinders here, just add dk17m's and the finder is the same size as the F2's and bigger than F3's and 4's.
Add D2x profile in camera and PP is limited to a tweak of exposure and WB. The only reason I will replace these cameras is if they are unfixable.
Someone said Canon instead of Nikon for MF lenses? No need if you pick the right AF Nikkors as they are better than the MF equivalents. I used to use Leica R lenses on these but it really isn't worth the bother against the Nikon Pro lenses.

I use a 5Dii for video mostly. Which is my profession. I do use it for my photography on occasion because of its full frame but when I'm out and about I always carry my x100.
