Do you do anything special to your soft release so you don't loose it?

So what do you guys use (or do you use anything) from keeping the thing from falling off?

I am thinking about picking another one up because the shutter release on my m6ttl has been acting a little funny lately (more pressure than usual) and I am pretty sure that a soft release would help me out. I am just curious what you guys use to stop them from falling off.

It does not fall off on mine. I lost some because I misplaced it. No glue for me but you can try it.

I lost one, which taught me to check if it's tight every once in a while.

The soft release turned up a few days later, but by then I'd already ordered a new one so now I have an extra.

I cut a small piece of double-sided tape, wrap once around the thread then screw it in. It's very tight that way

Can't say I ever had a problem with mine coming off either but the minute I say this it will inevitably happen.

The softie I had on my m4-2 actually caused that problem. I wasn't always pressing down on the exact top dead center of the soft release, and it caused the shutter release arm inside the camera to bend. I ended up missing about one in every four or five shots because of it, because the shutter release button wouldn't consistently release the shutter.

Other options are to use a bit of nail polish on the softie threads (let it dry down a bit to become tacky,) or a bit of plasticine, e.g., Blue Tack. I use the later method, so far it's working well.

I saw somewhere on here that Mrs. Tom A recommends a dab of fingernail polish. I just screw mine in tightly.

I do two things with mine: first a tiny drop of nail polish--and as mentioned above, let it get a bit tacky(sticky, I don't mean pick a weird color!😀)and I have got in the habit of checking that it's tight when I put the camera down for the day.
Elmer's glue works OK, too; not because it will adhere very well to the metal but it will add a bit more friction.

Michael, I used to buy a soft release for my Kodak Retina but it gone after the first use. I don't have an idea when it lost.

I used a little rubber o-ring around the base of the softie to tighten down on. It's a novel idea, really. That said, I lost it long ago. :bang:


Teflon tape (aka plumber's tape) would probably work pretty well.

unfortunately I lost my Tom Abrahamson soft release and it costs way too much for the postage to get a replacement. (boo hoo).

Here's a perfect way to secure a soft release without using any nasty form of glue or nail polish and such.

Take your wife'/girlfriend's hairspray and put a dab of it onto the thread of the softie.
Hairspray is adhesive enough to avoid losing a softie, yet with a little force the softie can be easily removed.
Bonus: In opposite to glue or nail polish, hairspray does not leave any residue.
