More than 10 years ago I joined Yahoo mail and they offered me photo sharing on flickr.com. At that time I'm completely deny their service. I've no idea to show my picture for strangers.
But I've changed my mind last year. There is some useful on that free service. I can upload my work and if someone ask for my pictures I can show them with a lot easier on flickr.com.
Many of flickr.com member are younger and they enjoy photography in their way. There are so many groups relate to the subject that they are interested in. Some groups needs only a picture of a door or a window. Some interested in only a picture from some model of cameras or lens. Some of them just only to gain others interested to their pictures. It's depends on what you need on that free service.
Please read their group's rule carefully. Some of them said "any pictures upload to the group can be freely public use".
I only upload my pictures to "Kodak Retina" group.
If you don't want that "join 1 vote 3" comment you easily don't join their group or quit that group.
If you don't want any comment you can disable it in the privacy & permission setting.
Please pay attention to the section below:
- who can download your stuff?
- who can share your photo & vdo?
- who can print your photo?
- who can blog your stuff?
By enable or disable the above setting you can protect the "right click" and "save as". The visitors can view only low resolution (aprox 500x300) and when they save your picture to their local storage the file will appear like "spaceball.gif" that only a blank file. Because of these settings I still use flickr.com as my temporary update of my work. (be careful when you link your pictures to other web site, because that pictures will be unprotected and can be save freely.)
License & Copyright your stuff
- What license will your content have?
- Hide your stuff on public serches?
Also don't join any group if you don't want those kind of comments.
Don't accept any awards given if you don't want.
Don't tag any information if you don't want anyone to found your pictures.
I use free service on flickr.com (only last 200 pictures can be edit & view).
But I'm a paid member on apug.org.
