Do you Flickr?

i disagree that it's a highly charged word in common usage, but if it gets your goat i won't say it. don't blow it out of proportion just because you're a moderator!

Regardless of what you consider appropriate Joe and our other moderators are much respected here. That's why they are our moderaters. Getting all up in their faces is no way to start out new here. JimG

i already said i wouldn't say it out of respect for him personally. i'm just saying he doesn't need to perch his request on something he can't speak for.

i appreciate that.
it's not just my goat and hopefully i have not blown it out of proportion. it was a simple request not a lecture or sermon.

i have no idea where you live but in my part of the world it is a sensitive word to use.

it's like my deaf friends, prefer to be called deaf and not deaf & dumb, a term used for years without insult intended.

Be wary of other users taking your pictures and posting them to other sites.

Be especially wary of people in far-away countries posting your pictures for sale on other sites.

Be wary of other flickr users rehashing your ideas and not giving you credit.

Be wary of the ubiquitous "delete me" comments from users who don't really know what a good photograph / digital image is.

I just started putting some photos up on Flickr and I must admit it's pretty nice for what I pay now - which is nothing. I haven't seen much of a 'community' there yet but that may just be me not looking hard enough.

So Rich, how are you enjoying Flickr now?
Seen a bit more of the "community" ? ;-)

You're gonna get totally addicted very soon, I predict...

Actually yes, there does seem to be a community there but what I haven't seen yet is any place that pulls together people on a regular basis - like this site - and have active dicussion threads that people come back to.

It seems like people are jumping all over the place.

But yes, I do like it.

That's true it is different from here on this point. There are much more people on Flickr. But it is a nice balance with RFF, more photo than gear.
I'm addicted to Flickr, glad you enjoy it!!

More than 10 years ago I joined Yahoo mail and they offered me photo sharing on flickr.com. At that time I'm completely deny their service. I've no idea to show my picture for strangers.

But I've changed my mind last year. There is some useful on that free service. I can upload my work and if someone ask for my pictures I can show them with a lot easier on flickr.com.

Many of flickr.com member are younger and they enjoy photography in their way. There are so many groups relate to the subject that they are interested in. Some groups needs only a picture of a door or a window. Some interested in only a picture from some model of cameras or lens. Some of them just only to gain others interested to their pictures. It's depends on what you need on that free service.

Please read their group's rule carefully. Some of them said "any pictures upload to the group can be freely public use".
I only upload my pictures to "Kodak Retina" group.

If you don't want that "join 1 vote 3" comment you easily don't join their group or quit that group.

If you don't want any comment you can disable it in the privacy & permission setting.

Please pay attention to the section below:

- who can download your stuff?
- who can share your photo & vdo?
- who can print your photo?
- who can blog your stuff?

By enable or disable the above setting you can protect the "right click" and "save as". The visitors can view only low resolution (aprox 500x300) and when they save your picture to their local storage the file will appear like "spaceball.gif" that only a blank file. Because of these settings I still use flickr.com as my temporary update of my work. (be careful when you link your pictures to other web site, because that pictures will be unprotected and can be save freely.)

License & Copyright your stuff

- What license will your content have?
- Hide your stuff on public serches?

Also don't join any group if you don't want those kind of comments.
Don't accept any awards given if you don't want.
Don't tag any information if you don't want anyone to found your pictures.

I use free service on flickr.com (only last 200 pictures can be edit & view).
But I'm a paid member on apug.org.
