I used a credit card when moved to Norway; settling up with family in other part of the world can get expensive, so the card had some debt for a while. We still have small debt from purchases almost every month, but not so big that it couldn't be covered with our savings.
A lot of people here suggest going cold turkey on CC, but it is a very useful tool for many situations. For instance, with buying gear they can help you claim money back in case of fraud. Get scammed on anything valued as say average leica lens, and it can easily exceed a few annual interests you'd pay on credit card.
It pays better to just research your expenses, plan family budget and keep your net worth above zero.
