Do you place FLRs like pens?

By that, I mean "Do you have fixed-lens rangefinders squirreled away, ready to use at different places in your daily routine?"

I was thinking of maybe doing this. Keep them loaded with ISO 400 B&W film. One in the glove box of my car. One in the motorcycle trunk. One in my desk at work. One floating around the house.

If not what do you do with them? Keep 'em all in a box? On a shelf?

Just curious what other folks do. It seems that those of us who are fans of FLRs cannot just stop at one, so it got me to thinking. 😉

I keep one in the pocket of a bag that I often carry when I'm out, and another one in a coat pocket - I'd also leave one in the glove box if I had a car.

And yes, ISO 400 b&w is what I keep in them.

I always wonder about people who keep cameras in cars. Where I live, over the course of the year the interior of my car can be anywhere from 120F down to -20F and below. I can't see how equipment, much less film, can be expected to ever perform when you expose it to such extremes, on top of the knocking around it'll get.

People put film in the fridge & freezer all the time, but I do suspect it loses some of its flexibility at cold temperatures. I don't think its light sensitivity changes though.

For now, I have an old fixed focus, fixed exposure point & shoot, which only needs batteries for flash.

In case of a car wreck, (mine, to document the damage) or in case I drive by a shot I don't want to miss, I will be glad I have it.

I've got a handful of FLR's now, and have been thinking about the same thing. I don't want to leave a camera in a car in extreme weather, as I know it CAN'T be good for it. Alternatively, I often will have one loaded, and either drag along for a day away from home, or if I anticipate the potential for grab-shots during my day.

If I know I'll have opportunities to take pictures, I'll usually make sure I've got two cameras....my DSLR and one FLR with B/W film. My wife thinks I'm nuts...

I just keep them on a shelf, and every morning I pick one that I want to take with me that day, I mostly have film in three of them, I like shooting Ilford pan F 50 asa in my konica auto S2, Ilford delta 400 in my yashica GL and HP4 in the olympus SP. Every camera has its own strenght, I like that...
