Do you post images here at RFF ... if not why not?

I have posted quite a few images on my gallery and I have also appreciated the kind and encouraging comments from other RFF members. However, I probably will not post very much more in the future. The reasons are manifold: First, I have read the many threads that include comments that images posted on RFF should be made by rangefinder cameras. My images have generally been produced with my old D70 DSLR. Although I don't understand why the camera should make a difference, I am sympathetic to the opinion that images from DSLR's don't belong here.
Second, I have a number of Barnack Leicas and other rf cameras that I work on and love. However, the images that I produce on film and digitize are not the type that I would post - they are test images to examine and document camera/lens performance and are not creative photography. Third, I have recently found that a number of my images are being used by others on the web, including other professional photographers curiously, for commercial use and without my knowledge and without any attribution. In my opinion, this is simply theft and I don't need the added irritation.
So, it isn't likely that I will post much to the gallery in the future but I enjoy RFF and will continue to add my 2 cents to threads like this. Kind regards to all. David

I voted "I can't get my head around..."

The reason? I don't like posting at max. 600 x 600 pixels. I've been asking again and again how to circumvent this (because I see larger pictures here all the time), but so far no one has seen fit to enlighten me. Maybe now? 😀

To post bigger pics in RFF threads, the image has to be hosted on another website and then you just link it in the RFF thread.

Here's how you do it. If you have a website for your photos, or you have photos on a photo sharing site, go to that site and go to the page where the big version of the photo is at.

Right click the image, and a menu will come up. Depending on what browser you use, there will be a choice in that menu that says something like "Copy image address" or "Copy image location". Choose that option.

Then, come back to RFF, and in the thread you want to put the picture in, choose the picture icon from the buttons above the place where you type in text. A box will appear asking for the picture's URL. Paste in the image location you copied on your website. When you submit the post, the image will appear in the post.

I've a few in the RFF gallery. I had several hundred at one time however there was a period of 'sluggish' connection or some such and people were requested to help by reducing their images. I did. Thing was I started uploading at flickr and now that's where my active uploads go. I do have a blog and website also but they're quiet at the moment.

I really believe if you're uploading here (despite "that radical" Keith's promotion of evil SLR's) the images should be generated by a RF so my RFF gallery is RF images . FWIW I shoot both styles so when there are threads on SLR's I'll add images by sourcing from my flickr account. Like Keith I'm surprised at the large number of members who are discouraged by what they find to be a difficult uploading interface. Perhaps someone should investigate that. Even longstanding members like Rob Beimer have described difficulties. It's worth a look.

I think years ago it was fair to expect members to go easy on the non RF images in the gallery but times have changed (thanks to Stephen) and we seem to be embracing a lot of other non RF cameras. The Fuji X series is a prime example!

I used to post in the gallery and then to threads. I always felt bad about filling up the gallery space with my random pics for the Photo Association thread. Then, I found a reliable way to transfer from flickr. My flickr is my photo association contributions. I'm not very brave when it comes to forums or showing my pics. The random nature of photo association suits me just fine.

None at that matters at the moment... my computer has broken down... now I just look.

I would post to threads but I'm not sure where to. I have difficulties in finding categories to add my photos. Also I'm a little awkward in starting a new thread for only a picture or two. RFF gallery I thought was useless (though I've never tried it), but many here have said that it's actually good and people seem to be interested in them. Maybe I should add pictures there...

I've only added photos to Flickr but I don't like that every photo in Flickr is either "Awesome!" or "Nice catch!". I'd like to have some real comments on my photos. Still, that is the only place at the moment where you can see my photos online.

Also, I have been 'active' in adding photos online for only a few months now, and I still add them pretty rarely. So I'm sort of still learning this online photo thing. AND, I don't have a scanner and I'm shooting film only......

I only post on the gallery and must say I am inspired by the consistent quality here. I'm sure my photography has considerably improved since I started posting here. Feedback is invaluable in my opinion, and it's great to see photographers posting from all over the world, giving a snapshot of different cultures.

I love this site for the wealth of information available; and the friendliness of its users. I don't shoot much digital and don't really have access to a scanner so consequently I rarely post photos.

I voted with the other chap who was too shy, so he didn't feel left out, but I do post in the threads I just can't abide the faffing about with the gallery's restrictions

RFF has a critique forum where we post pics, individually or several if you have a project going. don't be shy, show us what you've got!

I post in relevant threads just for the joy of sharing! The diversity of work on here is great and I hope I can add a little to that. I put favourites into the gallery for a similar reason- the gallery here is a good place to look through to gain inspiration to shoot I find. I also put stuff on Flickr but mainly so I can post it on fora.

Maybe I fall into the 'I'm not a very good photographer and I don't want to constantly subject everyone to pictures of my kids like I do on Facebook' category that Bob338 wants to include! Sorry Bob.

I post to the gallery without any problem using Picasa as the tool to compress the images easily. If you select the 'export to folder' option in Picasa you get some options which easily allow compressing to the size used by RFF. Then in the RFF Gallery you select to upload from your PC and select this exported image folder and file. No URLs or links to images necessary.

I think in the 11 months I've been posting to the RFF gallery I've learned more about how to take pictures than in any time before. I really value the comments. I also really appreciate and enjoy the Gallery Picks thread on Mondays. The sense of reward when my images are chosen for this is really something. I try to add my picks as often as work/life permit as I think the photographers who are uploading to the gallery here are offering up some excellent work.

Flikr? I can't get my head around it. I've got an account. Uploaded some pics. No one seems to view them ever. No one comments. Can't be bothered.

Not entirely true ... you really need to just jump in and participate regularly if you want to get noticed and receive some feedback.

There's some wonderful people in the gallery ... Tony (Leica M2 fan) comes to mind. His comments are sprinkled very liberally and they are always friendly and encouraging. He's an excellent example for all of us IMO!
