Do you prefer round hoods or rectangular hoods on lens?

Cosmetically speaking, Do you prefer round hoods or rectangular hoods on lens?

I prefer dodecagonal ones, these give the best features of rectangles (straight lines) with the curvyness of circles.

Always shoot with a hood, rarely a filter. Try to use the original hood made for the specific lens but that may not always be possible.

I do use rectangular hoods on all my OM gear except for 100mm and up. These hoods are from Pentax Asahi and are metal for the most part.

Wish someone would make a good rectangular aftermarket hood for 39mm and up. Wish I knew how to mill a billet of aluminum and make one!!

Really, as long as there is no vignetting, who cares?

BTW, I am about to call B&H Photo to buy my second square Leica lenscap that fits over the damn 35mm Summicron Asph lenshood. The thing won't stay on . . I must be peeling it off when I take the camera out of my Domke. . .

A proper rectangular hood should be most effective sheltering the field of view. Therefore I would prefer a rectangular hood. I don't have any though!
Except a rectangular hood for my Digilux 2 that doesn't allow a step-up filter ring so I don't use the hood.
The Russian rectangular 49mm hood mentioned in my sig is a perfect one, but way too wide for the J9 it came with. Should be great for a 50mm.

But cosmetically, a round one.

I like rounded because it reminds some people of protective collars around their dog's neck, so they look amused when they see a round hood on a camera.

I'm sure the dog wouldn't be as cute (nor as protected!) with a rectangular one.

Round, metal, screw-on. A little slower but they don't fall off if they get bumped. The exception is the bayonet on square hood on my Rollei. 😎

Another vote.. this one for whatever works best. I do prefer the screw in, as they are more secure, and provide additional protection in the event of a drop.

I would add that I recently used some small, fine modeling files (half round and flat) to open up and deepen the slot on the Zeiss hood for my 35 Biogon. It gives me just a sliver more view than I had before. I then used a black Sharpie marker to colour over the now exposed aluminum. It actually looks fine.

I might also add that round hoods seem to obscure less area in the bottom right corner of the viewfinder than the rectangular hoods do (even when vented). Yeah, the round hood is probably slightly less effective as a stray light blocker, but with the damned-near-impossible-to-flare new Zeiss lenses, I use the hood mainly for protection.
