do you 'speed' your roll up after frame 30?

I find myself often 'speeding' up the roll after frame 30 (in 36 exp films) so usually the last 5-6 shot are the most crappy ones, as I feel the urge to move to the next roll, or often change the film, sometimes I try to avoid this when I carry 2 cams, one loaded with slide and another with bw-neg film. any similar experiences?

I don't, but if there's a picture I REALLY want to develop ASAP, I'll just rewind and do it. I don't like to waste film, but if I'm excited about an image, that is more important to me than the unused film on the roll.

If I have a break anywhere around frame #30, I simply rewind and load a new roll of film. I want to know that I have more than 5-6 frames when I come across someone I want to photograph.

When I return from an outing I will sometimes "use up" a roll on test shots; a few shots on a grey card for instance at different exposures to check on negative density, or shots with a wide brightness range to see how much detail I am getting in the shadows and the highlights.

I speed up towards the end of the roll too ... but oddly they are some of my best shots quite often! :p

Ditto. Sometimes it turns out poorly, but often I do a better job of walking the border between film being "precious" and understanding sometimes you need to burn a little film to find the perfect shot, so I often end up with a killer image or two in that final 36, if anywhere in the roll.

I handroll my own, usually 24 exp so I never experience this strange problem...

Me too.................now that Elitechrome is gone it will be 24s. I just received John Sexton's newsletter. Lots of workshops, etc., but advice; for great not good photography: take a few images and do them well. If I do that and I think it is a great axiom: I have enough film for the rest of my life. But I know I'll buzz though a roll at a party next week.
