Do you use a soft release button on your M? If so which?

After going through a period of curiosity where I wanted to try every accessory out there, I came to the conclusion that for me, M cameras are pretty damn good just as they come from the factory. But the one silly thing I have found myself using almost as much as not are Tom A's original softies. They really can give an appreciable gain in hand-hold-able shutter speeds. Until I tried one of these, I had only seen the older Japanese concave softies, and I never saw much point in them; but Tom's convex design is perfect.

Even if I had a lathe and knew how to mill parts for myself, I'd still buy Tom's, since I'd just want to copy his design. I think he deserves the few bucks he earns for them- and they are still pretty darn cheap. Bravo, Tom.

Yes (sorry Dave) I use TA for M3 and M2. To be honest when I first got them I thought that they were a bit of a waste . Alot of money for something that looked like a drawing pin.l
In use you start getting interesting shots of the ground,inside the bag in fact anything really.They go off if you so much look at them.You think ...what the hell. Then two weeks ago I lost one and right away felt the difference and it didn`t feel right. Now I`m not saying that they are indispensable but I have ordered a replacement straight away.Trouble is Peter Walnes has run out of stock so hurry up Tom. If anyone can come up with a suggestion to keep them in place I`d like to know.

I think Tuulikki just shipped Peter a bunch. What I recommend for having them stay on is a small "dab" of nail-polish on the thread of the Softie - let i dry until it is just slightly sticky and then screw it on. This way you can unscrew it if needed. Using Loc Tite works - but it can make it a permanent addition!!!!

I do use TA softie with my M3 and Canon P, what would you guys recommend for canonets? irony is I use the Nikon AR-9 for my canonet.

TA softies all the way. They really have made a difference for me. It really does allow less motion when pressing the button. I was skeptical until I tried one for a while. I think I have 4 of them, including a purple one, being that I am a Kansas State University alumnus. To keep from taking pictures of the inside of the camera bag, I threaded one of my daughter's old hair rubber bands through the camera strap eyelet and then loop it between the softie and the shutter button.

I have one on my M3 (Leicatime, convex), but haven't gotten around yet to getting one for the M6TTL. Not sure why, since I really do like it on the M3....

Tried several. TA is the best, very high quality build. And I strongly recommend the mini version.

Don't buy those below USD10 ones on ebay, the material feels cheap.

I have a Luigi concave one and I didn't like the feel of it on my M's at all ... to be honest I don't thing the camera needs one!

It works a treat on my RF645 though ... I think they're a bit of a liability on a camera without an off switch or shutter button lock! 😀

The TA products are great. I used one on all my M cameras for awhile.

But I have stopped using them.

Too many accidental exposures. Okay, just turn off the camera you say, but who remembers to do that every time?

Am I the only one who only advances the film right before I take the photo?

TomA's Softies are the best. Take a look at my avatar, I slip a black nylon hairtie under the softie (fits perfectly), and loop the other end through the strap lugs. No more shots of the inside of the camera bag........

i have a Boop for my M 🙂 it's concave, not convex. i prefer the concave design.
