DO you use a stopper with film development?

dev -- agitate as per film
water -- 10 agitations
water -- 15 agitations
water -- 20 agitations
fixer -- agitate as per film
repeat the three water steps above
water with photoflo

This three part water with increased agitation I found in several books and web sites.

Use the fill-dump method
Dump developer
Fill tank with water, agitate vigorously, dump
repeat

and that is about it. I have not had problem with Rodinal and DDX/F76+ using this method.

So you just run water through the tank for a while?

A big issue for me might be soft vs hard water. Our water is . .. I don;t know, but I have read that can be an issue.

Will it be necessary to buy distilled water?

Distilled or hard water shouldn't make a difference in this step, but they do in final wash.

I learned to wash with the fill-dump method as well, but normally I use 5 changes of water in the last wash. One key point is to let the wash-water stand for a minute or so before dumping, specially the 3rd wash onwards to allow the fixer to diffuse to the water.
Photoflo at the end is very good, but it can be replaced by 2 distilled water changes.

Stop bath, always. Always have & probably always will.

No particular reason other than it works, but I recently checked some 25 year old negs, and they were in tip top condition apart from a little dust.
