Do you want to listen to a cover band or the real thing?

That's how I feel about film emulation software..
Yeah it can be really good, I guess. But there is always that something.

And i just realized what it is. It's like listening to a cover band playing your favourite band's songs. They can do a slap up job but you always prefer the original..

You ever heard Madonna's version of Don McLean's American Pie? Like that...

I think of it as more like: still your favorite band, but they're playing somebody else's guitars. Not quite the same, but everything you love is still there.

Apart from the sound as they are playing someone else's guitars.

I use film emulation software occasionally. Not because I want the shot to pretend to be film, (I'd shoot film where possible for that outcome).

I don't add grain in the emulation, I don't see the point of that. I do use it to have a specific tonal look to start with, and I'll then tweak the image until I like it
