Documenting Nazis marching the streets of Sweden (X-Pro2 & GRII)

So this is what was going on yesterday in Stockholm... I'm staying in Uppsala (being a student city eclipses most of anything else now) but saw posters for a demonstration against Nazis the 25/8.

Haven't seen any of these people around, thankfully.

In general terms, the political situation in the west is odd, if that term applies in a way.

OP, why don’t you go take your cameras into one of the “NO-GO” zones or maybe document the recent torchings of Swedish neighborhoods?

Why i don't go to NO-GO zones and take photos? What does that have to do with my choice of documenting Nazis? Do you always ask photographers why they don't photograph something else?

What NO-GO zones? I have been to some of those places called NO-GO zones around Stockholm, Malmö and Gothenburg. I have never felt like i was in danger. Don't know why i should? Not even witness to the torchings were in any danger. It sucks that teens feels the need to put cars on fire.
You are more than welcome to go there to see for your self. Bring your camera. You might see something i don't.
 
In Sweden Nazis burns down refugee camps when refugees are sleeping inside. They attack people. They are now building their own firearms and bombs. All firearms and rifles are forbidden in Sweden. Hunters can own a hunting rifle. Nazis is way more violent than any antifa-organisations in Sweden. Yesterday in Stockholm when the nazis speaked, anti-nazi protesters were armed with megaphones and big inflatable poop emojis. Nazis was armed with shields, helmet and was talking about using deadly force against our government if they did not step down.
 
Here in Portland, Oregon there are regular dustups between a group of right leaning has beens, wanna be's and look at me's called the Proud Boys and the Rose City Antifa. The Proud Boys like to dress up in military gear, display their open carry weapons and wave the flag while espousing First Amendment rights mostly just to agitate the Antifas. The Antifias like to show up, cover up and throw things until the police blast them with pepper spray and flash bangs grenades. Then both sides leave to tell stories about how great their day was and how wrong the other side is. Occasionally someone gets hurt but mostly it's theater of ideologies. Landbergs photos of the Nazis show a much more malevolent group determined to take a seat in government, actively suppress minority groups, hoping to change minds and accumulate power. It's too late to ignore these groups and hope they will crawl back under the rock they came from but hate never wins against hate. Hopefully the time for reason hasn't passed and it's bright light can be shown on both sides of a troubling trend.

teen is code word for violent Muslim migrants, we get it. Hmmm I wonder why these ungrateful people feel so compelled to set your cities on fire every summer...

Suggestion: add captions or explanatory essays to your photos. A paragraph like this one helps a lot. Without a little idea of what is going on and where you see things, you create a blank slate for others to write what they will. With some explanation at least you and others will be able to direct people back to the topic at hand, not go down this or that track.

It's the meaning that matters, and if you don't provide some, others will be happy to jump in with their own, as you are experiencing here! I don't think that we should expect photographs of troubling current events to not be discussed as politics, etc. A huge part of the use of photography draws upon just this, its connection to events in the world, yet also photographs do not provide answers, meanings, etc.
 
The nazis seem to have taken the white polo shirt to be a uniform or a symbol almost like the brown shirts of the thirties. Is this an intermational thing or only occurring in Sweden? (I’ll stop wearing mine)

Nai, all of their Polos are from same source as in Kai W video about YN 50 1.8.

Moderators, thank you for cleaning up in the thread. I won’t discuss my political views anymore because it has nothing to do with my photos. I will shoot what I see. I don’t want to make any side look better or worse. If the left side do more violence then I hope that will show, same thing if the nazis are violent.

I document nazi gatherings because the far right is rising. It’s a real possibility that a party that was openly nazis in the 90s can rule Sweden after the election in September. If Sweden one day has a nazi government than I want to have documented when it happened.
 
Great project - well done for having the balls to take something like this on. Great photos and editing too. You've definitely captured the story. Looking forward to seeing more of these.

Only one criticism: could you make the gaps between posted images a bit bigger? It's a very minor thing, but some of them flow together on screen a little too much and it makes them hard to look at in isolation. It's my old eyes, I'm afraid 🙂

From a UK point of view...I've moaned for years about the lack of free-speech in the UK. We don't have a proper constitution, so our rights as citizens aren't the same as they are in places like the US, for instance. However, seeing things like this makes me glad we have laws banning 'hate speech' and the like. I don't think marches like this would be tolerated by the police for long here. The closest thing we get here are EDL protests, which are carefully monitored and seem to be shut down quickly if anyone says a word out of line. Sad to see this happening in Europe again. People have short memories eh?

Sorry I don’t know your code language. In Sweden we have problems with teen gangs selling drugs and shooting each other. I have worked 4 years in a prison for teens. I Have worked with a lot of the teens that burn cars, sell drugs and shoot other kids. And the problem is not based on religion or the color of your skin. You see in the 50s Sweden built large suburbs with high buildings around our large cities. Those suburbs offered a cheap but high standard off living. Later on we started to build small villages with villas so the middle class left the suburbs. Left where only the poor people who couldn’t afford anything else. In this places we started to see a lot of teen gangs like the “kickers”, mostly white kids and second generation immigrants. We saw a lot of skinheads, only white kids. We saw gangs with roots from
Chile, Bosnia and so on. This are gangs that was so violent that a lot of young teens died. This is 20-30 years before Muslims fled to Sweden. When ISIS came and people fled to Sweden this suburbs where the only areas we could house them in. I guess that if you put a lot of traumatized people in this suburbs things will get ugly. Still it’s a small amount of teens representing the violence but we see it and it scares people. It scares people so much that the nazi movement is growing again for the first time since the early 90s. That’s what I want to capture. The regular media in Sweden does a fine job documenting the violence between teen gangs.

I believe you mean ", then". Makes a big difference here. We speakers of ESL need to help each other...
