does anyone have their own web space

I could not disagree more.

A web site forces an amateur to reflect on his or her work as a whole. The process of selection, editing, organization, and presentation is a process of defining who you are as a photographer and what you value as a person. Focusing on single images, as blogs usually do, is less likely to encourage that analysis and may invite what I think of as "creative drift."

Of course, an amateur can accomplish this focus in other ways. But a web site is handy because it provides a template or structure for analyzing and articulating what you feel is important.

John

people were doing what you say long before the net was invented...a blog can do some of that and there is no cost to it.
i'm not against websites but for me they seem more like work and i spend enough time on the internet. as a business tool they are a must.

I did web design work for a long time, coding with HTML. When I retired, I didn't want to do that for my own site, so I use sqaerespace.com:

https://www.markapplingfisher.com

Other folks I know make their own, or use GoDaddy, or WordPress, etc. Like cameras, it boils down to what you want to spend, what features you want, what you want it/them to do.

Not all web sites (mine, for example) are there to generate money; sometimes it's just nice to have a web presence to direct people to, if they have an interest in your work.

I have one at my Google Drive with shared files with everybody. I write my own HTML with some Javascript here and there. Unfortunately, Google decided to stop the service per 1 August 2016, or so. Don't know what to do then, perhaps find some place elsewhere.

In the meantime, until Google stops the service, please feel free to visit my site by clicking on the QR code in my signature below.

As said above you could just register a domain name and have it auto-redirect to Wordpress or wherever. 12-reg is worth a look for registration/hosting.

photo blog and websites

Hi

I have asked this before and got some great responses but lost the thread😱 if possible could people share their views or recommendations regarding good sites to build your own web page and/or blog

many thanks

Running a Joomla website on webspace hosted by hosting2go.nl. www.johanniels.com

Mainly for my one-man business, but have been unable to work since March due to a burnout. Currently thinking of ending the business (sob) but site will remain.
Y'all are very welcome to read my gear reviews (English) and look at the pictures in my photography blogs (Dutch)...

I have a domain website for my personal work. I pay for the domain name (GoDaddy, minimal fee) and use a host to create and manage the site (Cargo Collective, invite and reasonable yearly fee).

I use other blog sites too but these are less likely to be something I would direct people to, they work better within their own online communities. As a ludite 😀 they might not be what you had in mind..

Maybe decide if you want a domain name or not, a '.com' is cheap and easy to come by. Then it's what type of web space. Plenty of good options suggested for blogs or hosts already, whatever your preference.

Have fun building it.

My wife and I both have sites designed by professional web designers. We both feel there important for our work and provide a platform for prospective customers to view our work. Both of us have made numerous good sales through our sites even though our primary purpose was to show samples of what we do not make sales. We host through Siteground.
