Does RFF Load Slower ?

Two very important submarine telecommunication cables snapped in the Mediterranean a few days ago, this created a very big loss of bandwidth in the countries of the Gulf and in India. Bandwidth from trans pacific cables, linking the US to Asia, was redirected to the affected countries. This might explain the slow speed (or not).

But every other site I've accessed was fine. Hard to believe RFF alone is routed through India!

You'd think certain absurd things not to be true, but did you know that there are some McDonnald's drive-thrus where your order is being taken by somebody in India? OK, McDonnald's in the U.S.

Companies think that the Internet is the solution to everything, and have no Plan B for their backbone. Spam will keep on slowing things down, if other events don't kill it off first.

People don't put good practice logic in their Cowboy-Diplomacy take on using the Internet: "it's a free-for-all!" Or, my favorite (as many people know): "Who Cares! My life doesn't depend on it".

The Y2K bug wasn't a computer bug, but a state of mind bug which is slowly forming.

Over-reliance in one technology will be the downfall of the not-so-Roman Empire.

And it'll begin the moment your Happy Meal gets lost in a TCP/IP void.

It was horribly slow today - I can only surmise a few reasons:

  1. People hammering the site due to announcements pertaining to the M8
  2. "Software" changes (i.e. changing the classifieds - which are now removed from the bottom of my page at least)
  3. FrankG :D
  4. some horrid fibre cuts around the world
