Does the M4-P viewfinder sufer from flare?

Harry, finder flare was never a problem with the M3 I had for 17 years, and it has not so far been a problem with the M2 I now have. However, while some users have complained of flare in the M2 finder, I haven't heard anyone speaking of flare in the M3 finder. I'd say the difference is at most marginal, though I don't have the details which you will have got from DAG.

The M3 does not flair - and it never will. Its optical properties simply prevent it. However, its design is limited because the widest FL it will permit is 50mm and in the 1950s shooters were increasingly turning to the 35mm FL as a "normal" lens. So Leica designed a new finder, which permitted the 35mm framelines, and placed it in the M2.

Yes, the M2 was designed as a less expensive alternative to the M3. But the M2 finder was at least as complex as that of the M3 - cuts, if you will, were taken in other areas (as already mentioned).

There was a "cheapened" finder, but it came much later in the M4-2.
