Two different x mount bodies to be announced this year.. One w/ xtran sensor and one w/o?

Would they go to a Bayer sensor camera after all this time? For me the only thing I could think of was a monochrom camera does not need Bayer or xtran...

Anyway I would jump all over a monochrom version, but if turns out to be a Bayer version I am going to go wtf.

Anyway this rumor is a bit harder to believe. What do u think?

Well - one could be X-Pro 2 and the other (non-T-trans) could be some sort of entry model to Fuji X system.

I do not expect a monochrome version though.

Monochrome - doubtful. Fuji loves to market their film simulations as viable output.

I am sure a Bayer sensor in a X-Pro body would likely poach a lot of NEX users - even with the release of the Touit series Fuji still offers more a more compelling roadmap. I think the Coolpix A (and the D800E) is starting to prove that a traditional Bayer sensor without an AA filter doesn't necessarily bring all the evils that X-trans was developed to avoid.

Given how Fuji has created a lot of technology and then abandoned it when it suits them, it's not inconceivable that Fuji offers an X-Trans version and a Bayer version for the XE2/XP2 releases. If they were smart, they'd steer high-ISO low-light people to the X-Trans and the low-noise detail-oriented towards the Bayer versions respectively.

Of course the natural counterpoint is that pretty much anybody can anonymously submit a rumor to these sites, so what I write here is rational...but also eminently believable as a rumor. :angel:

Hmmmmmm. It seems like they have pretty good strategy currently with the X100s, X-Pro 1, and XE-1. I guess their is room for an entry level model i.e. no OVF or EVF. That makes sense. But a second body?? What niche would that fill?

With respect to the Bayer vs. X-Trans debate, that seems like a Republican vs. Democrat issue. There are people who sing its praise and produce stellar work, and then there is a group who think its completely inferior and Fuji cheat with respect to their ISO values.

Sounds like users vs. pixel peepers.

I think it makes more market sense to continue to use the X-Trans II; spread the cost of development and manufacturing over more models. Saying the cameras will have two different sensors is so vague. One could X-trans I and the other X-Trans II.

We shall see. The one thing we do know is that it will be an interesting, photographer oriented camera. They are on a roll with the X-series.

I selfishly hope they saturate the market with bodies so I can afford one as the existing models depreciate.

I doubt it'll be monochrome, Leica is probably content selling a few thousand of those things, Fuji demand a higher turnover I think.

What lenses would they sell with a FF-Fuji? They needed to develop new ones. Not a clever idea.

X20 did not really attract many people, so fuji might be trying to compete at m4/3 level and also maybe one at $2000+ level.

Fuji has three cameras at the same price range, and X100s is the obvious better value among those three. X pro1 and xe1 might be discontinued in favor of these two new models.

Fuji is on a roll right now and it makes sense for them to gain market share with new products at different price levels.

Actually they have a pretty wide range of so-called x cameras (some still using Bayer).
-xf1 - not sure how well this is doing, bad timing w/ release of Sony rx100
-xs1 - super zoom that I don't think is doing very well
-x10/20 - not sure Bayer to xtran sensor in the same size factor was the right answer
-x100/x100s - this looks to me to be a winner
-xp1/xe1 - this is where my money has been going, love the lens roadmap, this series will only get better in the future.

An entry level csc camera w/ xtran sensor makes sense to me. A Bayer version to me muddies up their whole marketing speak... A monochrome version would not. A m43 sensor size in Bayer I can half way kind of c..

But it would bring up questions like m43 lens compatibility.. Do they go current m43 style UI or do their back to basics style which makes using the m43 lenses harder unless they add more control interfaces or multi-purpose some based on the lens.

Would u buy a x10/20 like camera w/ a m43 sensor but it is a csc and new lens family as well?

I haven't a clue.

I was thinking more along the lines that Fujifilm sell a typical RFF member the B&W version as a cheap Monochrom, and in a couple of week/months, he realises he wants colour too, and buys the colour version.

In any case, I don't think you need to be a hardcore B&W guy to get a Monochrom or Fujifilm equivalent, you just need to be a gearhead with a bad case of GAS.

How many photographers other than RFF members know or care if their camera has a xtran, bayer, CMOS, CDC, or CIA sensor? (I don't)

Those I know, including some very successful pros with major investments in equipment, seem to have no clue. Their decisions seem to be based on "takes good photos vs. takes even better photos"
