Does this latest rumor make any sense ???

How many photographers other than RFF members know or care if their camera has a xtran, bayer, CMOS, CDC, or CIA sensor? (I don't)

Those I know, including some very successful pros with major investments in equipment, seem to have no clue. Their decisions seem to be based on "takes good photos vs. takes even better photos"

I think you're quite right, but if companies can use such differentiation to sell more cameras to enthusiasts, that's what they'll do.

When I asked whether it was a good time to buy an X-pro 1, my friend who's a Fuji pro told me to wait a while as Fuji will release two more cameras this year. He is under NDA and all he told me was what the link basically said, though he did mention one will be an entry-level model. Also, if i was planning to get an XE-1, I should wait til after the announcement.

As for the X-pro 1 replacement, all he said was that it's not gonna be this year.

I, for one, think we will see a full frame XPro/XE type camera from Fuji in the next 18 months. Dont know what type of sensor it will have but it will help Fuji sell more APS C cameras. They could easily put out a few primes with it and publish a lens road map.
introduce it with an m mount adapter to placate those who can't wait for their favorite focal length. Fuji has very deep pockets.

Fuji's either the #1 or #2 P&S manufacturer and has more models than anyone else, even ahead of Canon and Sony.

But those lines are stalling or drying up due to smartphones etc. So Fuji needs new revenues. I'd look for a something well above a smartphone ins sensor size but below APS-C. Maybe 1".

With Toshiba ramping up their foundry we might see another player in the FF spectrum, but I suspect launch would be Photokina 2014.

I the meantime, I bet they are working on updates to the X-Pro.

Perhaps Fuji should revoke his NDA now. :)

It's clear that rumors generate interest, and interest generates traffic. But it doesn't take a rocket scientist to state that Fuji will be coming out with new models that 'might have this' or 'might have that.'

Much ado about nada. :)

Until Fuji RAW files really show flexibility and potential a lot of photographers, including me will stay away from Fuji... not to flame the RAW vs jpg debate but I'd like to cook my own food rather than order from the standardized fast food outlet that works to please 'everybody'. Fuji jpgs might be very good but I find them too sleek and lifeless and processing jpgs are like, well, re-cooking fast food.

Out of curiosity are u basing this comment because of what u have seen from adobe acr support or all the raw developers so far in general?

Btw

The latest update to this rumor ... Non-xtran sensor maybe the one from original x100.. The more interesting update was a 16-50ish zoom to be included as part of kit.

By end of the year we are going to know how much was just plain bs.

I never use ACR, lightroom and any other RAW converter, I only use Raw Therapee and RPP.

I tried Fuji RAW files, even the latest X100s, it just does not have the 'juice' to be extracted and molded into what I want it to look.

The dinky Nikon V1 RAW files are extraordinary, its makes it impossible to hate that camera, but X100s RAW -- I don't know, they don't feel RAW enough if you know what I mean. They're cooked even in RAW format and not just for noise, it seems more is done to them, even sharpening of some sorts that makes them not very ideal for cooking later.

I'm also not a fan of using the same sensor in three generations of camera over a couple of years.

Edit: Nikon V1 RAW files are also slightly cooked but only for noise.

It's funny how some can absolutely love a camera and others can hate it.

That is understandable, I mean cooking is not everybody's ideal thing to do, but in digital photography there are no nice lab people, printers and film chemists to help, you're your own film creator. You're your own Kodak.

I "cook" everything that I feel is usable, in some capacity, from the Fujis and I prefer the files to the digital M and the Sigma DP2m. Preferred them to the Canon 5d MKII as well.

Manual focus monochrome coming from Fuji!

Manual focus monochrome coming from Fuji!

OK.. I'll dive it here. The mystery camera will be a full-frame monochrome manual focus camera, using an improved version of the split screen focusing offered up in the X100s. And they'll be introducing a manual focus lens line-up, including 28/2.8, 40/2, 58/1.2, and 85/2.

This is reliable information... because I'm always right... eventually.
