DOF scale not lining up at 12o'clock on Bessa R

hi all,

i'm new to rff and rf photography. just bought a bessa r body, and a nikon lens. when i put the lens on the camera, the center of the dof scale ends up at about 2 o'clock (instead of 12). is there a fix (it's inconvenient)? is it a problem for accurately focusing (i haven't seen my first roll of film yet)? thanks so much

It is probably not a problem--some lenses line up differently on different bodies.

Many lenses do this and it's not a problem in my experience.

You don't specify which Nikon lens but I have the 3,5cm/2,5 W-Nikkor-C and it ends up with the 5m distance setting at 12 o'clock on the Bessa L. (With this lens, the distance scale is stationary and the DOF scale moves.) It bothered me until I realized that 5m is the most useful setting -- it's the hyperfocal at f/8.

In other words, now I know that stop down to f/8 and focus tab straight up-and-down = instant snapshot setting. Hey, they knew what they were doing at Nikon!

This is normal. Even some Leica lenses do this (for example a younger collapsible Summicron I have). The idea was that you can see the DOF scale through the VF.
