could the obvious elude me more?

just reading the 'everyday camera' thread and it looks like quite a few folk carry an m3 daily.
got me thinking that i don't use the m3 enough despite it being a great camera and one i enjoy using.

then i had this brain fart!
if i shot more often i could actually use all my gear and not fret so much about the gear not being used.

time to devise a new time management plan...

My current project is to carry my dSLR with me more often and make myself love it.

So far it isn't working, but my digital pictures are sucking a little less, and I no longer feel so guilty about just letting it sit and go obsolete without being used.

Some days I carry a different rangefinder, and I really like the Canonet and the Olympus, but I don't have the same warm fuzzy sentimental attachment to them so when I don't have my M3 with me I find that I actually miss it. It's like Linus and his blanket.

My problem isn't carrying the camera - it's finding a way to break out of the same "walk to work" rut I'm in.

I live on 33rd St. and work on 50th. At this high summertime of the year light is really good - for about four blocks - then I hit super higt-rise land and everything is in shadows.

All those great NYC "street shots" you folks picture in your mind's eye were taken 60+ years ago when mid-Manhattan still had light and shadows.

Problem is....I can't quit my job just to go wandering in other parts of town where they still have light! :bang:

George, do you just walk the 17 blocks (plus some lateral blocks too?) using the same route every time, or do you vary the route? Maybe go a bit out of your way for more variation, start off a few minutes early... 🙂

I always carry a rangefinder in my small backpack, in the front pocket, with the Digisix. Wherever I go I pick the one that has the most suitable film in... And yes, varying your route to your habitual places is a good idea!

Man, I miss those shadows...

George, if you're doing this on the West Side, the PA bus terminal should be calling to you with its siren song. Talk about photo opportunities. Either that, or shoot the McGraw-Hill building at sunset with some NPH...mm-mmm, good.

And don't get me started on Rock Center...

Thanks for the daydreams, George.

Cheers,
--joe.
