I enjoy the galleries at RFF. It's why I first came here. Every once in a while, some of the RFF'ers forget to accompany a few basic details with their photograph. Some of the members put highly detailed information others post no info. I'm prodding to get the members to at least post basic information like a lens and film as a minimum. Camera and f stop is nice but not critical.

Often the image is a combination of the first two and sharing this info lets all people new to RFF like I was a couple of years back get ideas to improve.

cheers, Jan

I'll second that. Generally, we see lots of well filled out postings, but sometimes great shots come along without any accompaniment.

You're right, Jan. I believe that some people get caught up in the"a good picture should stand on its own" philosophy in the mistaken belief that including details in a photo display is somehow not artistic. While it's true that a good photo is a good photo know matter how it is taken, I believe that at its core RFF is a heuristic site where people learn by copying and learn by doing. It sounds a little low-brow but that's why I'm here.

I don't always have something to say about an image I post but I always try and give technical details. I think it helps when people are looking to get examples of a certain piece of equipment, like a lens. I like to use the search feature in the gallery, type in something like "summitar", and all the images taken with a summitar open up, nice feature!
