Hello All,

Recently I became a very happy M6 owner and I really love the camera.
Out of curiousity I was wandering is it possible to make double exposures with it?

Many Thanks,
mikhail

Its possible, as with most 35mm cameras.

The trick is to press the rewind releas handle, and then cock the shutter without advancing the film.

I havent actually tried this on an M, but it should work. I doubt that you would damage it anyway - but you might have to tighten the rewind crank and keep it tight, and then maybe also keeping the rewind lever down WHILE you cock the shutter. In that case it takes some learning how to to with two hands!

On most 35mm cameras this works, but sometimes you might get a small offset it the film gets advanced somwhat... The way to prevent this is to tighten the rewind and keep it tight, without actually rewinding the film that is!

Yes, that is right - I thought so but was not totally sure...

But why would you want to do it? That is what I really wonder about... 🙂

🙂 I rather not try to it. I don't want to break my long awaited leica

Sometimes I love to make double exposures and get interesting results. I'll use fm2 for this

Many thanks

don't try!
The procedure is right but it works on M3, M2, M5 and all Screw mount Leicas because of their removable take up spool (yes... M5 has a removable take up spool!).
It can't work correctly on other Leica M with fixed take up spool...

(PS: see also Gandy's page on M5 about this topic)

If you hear a strange grinding sound, that means something is breaking down.
Which means Metal parts inside the mechanics of your body.

One safe (but cumbersome way) is to mark the film once you loaded it through the open back-door, then after exposing the frame rewind the film without bringing it fully in to the shell, then reload to the same marking and advance the same number of times...

Hello,
To my mind, the best way to make double exposures with Leica M is to shoot an entire film, rewind and reload it a second time the exact same way as the first one (you can make a mark on the film), then shoot the entire roll again. Don't forget to correct the exposure and also you may take notes about what you did shoot on which frame...
Have fun!

first, sorry for my english... all mecanic cameras can make doble exp.
1.Tightening the spooler before teke the first picture.
2.take the first picture.
3.push the Rewind button (R), but don´t redwin the film.
4.push the Winding lever holding the R button, in this moment film don´t moves but the Shutter works
5. make the second photo.
after this, when you want to meke another photo only push the Winding lever without push the Rewind button.
in leica m i guess it mekes too, but I DONÝ SURE.. good luck

Only some versions of M2 have a push-button, the rest have rewind release lever. The moment you start to advance film, release lever disengages and returns, so no, it won't work with a Leica.

Well if you tried the rewind lever trick and listened to the loud crunchy grinding sound, you would agree with me it should not be done.

Just use the card in front of the lens, slow film, and small stop, low light, shutter on B. Best you can do.

Get a Barnack screw body and turn the shutter dial. You can make doubles all day long.
