DP1,2,3 image quality?

Af speed between the dp1and 2 about the same, not sure about dp3 since it has a macro lens. I suspect it maybe like the Fuji xf60 lens which is slower due to macro design point. Someone w/ the dp3 can address this.

Battery life is about the same 60-100 shots depending on things like chimping, af usage vs mf or zone focus, etc. Jon has been using third party batteries that have higher mAh rating and gets a lot more per battery.

Not sure what u are asking in terms of performance, but if it is about the lens, then center on all three is excellent, the dp2 may have best edge performance.

If u use wider then 28 or longer then 7 for landscape, u should consider the sd1 Merrill as well.

Btw.. This landscape photographers blog is what got me thinking about buying the sd1m. He owns all three dp Merrill cameras and the Nikon 800e before he bought the sd1m. On a slightly different note, I have got a Ricoh gw-3 (0.75 adapter) for the GR coming in this week. I am planning to try it out on the dp 1 and 2.. Since the af focusing movement is inside the barrel, the filter never moves, so attaching the adapter to it should not cause an issue w/ the camera. Since this is a high quality adapter, hopefully, I will loose very little iq when in use. The dp1 becomes a 21mm fov w/ it.

For me I tend to use very wide lenses, medium range 35-50 and tele lenses (90-200) for landscape. I prefer 21 and 24 more then 28 fov for landscape work. The sd1m has the lens selection... But there are times I just want to carry something lighter, so a 21/45 fov combo w/ the dp1 and 2 maybe the ticket, if the adapter works out.

For the moment and because the tide budget (Sigma can't be Canon),
let's stay in Kind of 'Realistic dreamland', yes this is the ward. So, you
have🙂 to give a chance to Merrill Medium (MM) format concept.
Leaf shutter in closed circle lens (Zoom), raped in a simple but ragged body,
as with the Merrill and the 645ZI, will be the best of all worlds.
We need a tool to do the job. Let Fuji, Sony and Nikon fight for themselves...

Sigma does already sell csc lenses (their art line) or Sony Nex and m43, so doing a csc would not be too far astray for them. Recently they raised their dp Merrill prices back up which is an indicator that they are selling well.

Anyway just my dream.

Sounds like excessive clarity to me, maybe you can try lowering it?

Back on topic, some demanding users have noted differences in the color rendition between the 3 DPM models.

Personally, my favorite is the DP3M, but I use the DP2M the most (unbeatable as a fixed lens compact for deliberate shooting).

I've noticed it. But what I see is that the photo shows up, in it's most basic raw form. Then all of a sudden, there are some weird settings applied and I can never get back to the clean, raw photo that I prefer.

I have also noticed that using the monochrome white balance setting (drop down menu) is vastly different than using the the monochrome tab at the top of the adjustments panel.

Is this true, the Foveon patent will expire and Nikon/Canon/Leica will be able to have a crack at a 3-layer color sensor?

I'm sad for Sigma, but I'd be glad if CMOS tech was supplanted by superior Foveon tech. It will at least expedite improvements. It seems obvious that it's the future of high end imaging (to me, anyway).

Actually, I'd really love to see Arriflex/Red/BlackMagic figure the tech into a video sensor.

Or would in that case the sd-1 be the better alternative?

Did they raise their prices? I tought I read at LL that they dropped them. But I cannot find any lowered price anywhere.

It seems that the Sigma price drop only occurred in Europe. I checked some of the US sites myself in US when I saw the info from another forum.

i think it should be fine for use at 35mm FOV, similar to the way the ricoh grd has a 28mm eq lens but has a 35mm mode. there should be plenty of sharp pixels left to use:

you have to get used to the slow and deliberate "pace" of using a merrill, but using it at 35mm should be fine.
