I finally ordered one. I missed Foveon too much. I am hoping that this camera will be roughly equivalent to a 35RC loaded with slide film. Please tell me I'm right. 😉

I'm happy with the DP-2 (1st version). So happy in fact I ordered the DP-1s for the wider lens (and $299 price tag from Amazon). All the DP's share the same sensor as you know, so I don't think there should be any surprises for you about the impressive image quality. Several user reviews at Amazon rate the DP-2s quite highly regarding the weaknesses of the first version of the camera. I'm sure you will enjoy it.

I like my DP2-S. The quality of the pics is excellent. I use it in Program mode. Autofocus is not instantaneous, but is not annoyingly slow. An option is offered to prevent the autofocus from searching within the first meter or so, which can be helpful depending on your style of shooting. Saving RAW files is annoyingly slow. I use the viewfinder and it's taking me a while to learn the difference between what the VF sees and the camera records.
Believe Sigma has hinted it is working on a full-frame version of its DSLR. That would be very interesting, especially if it was possible to use non-Sigma lenses.

Yes cliffpov...it does certainly does have charm for a little point and shoot. The image quality is pretty nice.

My first day of shooting today. Christ. I'd forgotten how ridiculously AWFUL everything is--the AF, the groaning, creaking lens, the cap, the plasticky buttons, GOD.
But the lens and the sensor are AMAZING....can't post pics just yet, I am away from home and want to run 'em through LR3, but good lord. There is nothing like these files.

Yes I guess this is a case of where the end result outweighs the bad attributes.

On a trip last month to England and Scotland, I took a DP2-S and a Bessa R4M. I shot the R4M almost always with a CV Ultron 28/1.9, using Ektar 100 and Portra 400VC.
The weather, frankly, sucked, and I'm not happy with the photographic results. Still, it was the Sigma's first trip away from home and the big, bright f22 days we have here more often than not.
The Sigma did just fine. I think results just maybe would have been better if I'd left the Bessa at home and used only the Sigma. The camera is slow saving Raw files, but otherwise does nothing to annoy me. The autofocus focuses at least as well as I do, maybe better. And, ironically, given criticism of its focus speed, it's much faster to determine focus than I am.
This is a crop out of a shot in Edinburgh, one of several I shot from across the street while resting and hiding from the rain:

I am very curious to see the results. I doubt however, that they will be able to fit this sensor into a more compact camera like the DP series.
Regarding slow saving of RAW files, I am just wondering, maybe you could improve on that with a faster SD card? I noticed a big difference between a 8x and a 120x SD card the other day (different camera though, I do not yet have a Sigma)... just a thought.
