Driver for Konica/Minolta Scan Dual IV for iMac OS-X 10.6.2

I went to the Konica/Minolta site to find a driver for my Scan Dual IV. The list of drivers does not include OS-X Snow Leopard. It goes up to maybe 10.4x or 10.5 at the most (I forget). Konica/Minolta is out of business and will not be updating the drivers. They say to go to Sony for support, but the Sony website does not recognize the Scan Dual IV.

It appears that you are not supposed to try using earlier drivers.

Has anyone else solved this problem? How?
 
They tell me (the ubiquitous "they") that Silverfast and/or Vuescan will work, at least on the PC, without the K-M drivers. That's the way I will most likely go when I'm forced to "upgrade" from my current windows version.
 
Well, Konica-Minolta is out of the photography business, for sure, but they still maintain a section of the site for software used with their scanners.

According to this, the most recent driver available was tested with Mac OS X 10.4. I don't think you'll kill anything by trying that driver, although of course there's no guarantee that it'll work, either.

At the very least, VueScan will work with the snowy little cat; VueScan't is what I've mostly used for the last seven years, and it's only gotten better.

The nice thing about VueScan is that it will work with all those consumer-grade scanners.

The bad thing is that the interface is unlike any other scanner software. But it is very capable. YMMV
 
I used the 10.4 driver on 10.5 and felt miserable with it. Software kept crashing whenever I changed any setting off the default value and running the software with altered settings.

VueScan isn't my cup of tea. When scanning, I use an old Windows XP machine. All other stuff goes down on the Mac. The XP machine runs the KM software just fine, and over SCSI also gets the old Epson GT7000 Photo into gear without trouble.
 
OK I went to the Vuescan website, noted there was a $39.00 charge; clicked something for a download. And I did get a download--9MB--but, funny, they didn't ask for any money. Thinking I clicked the wrong thing (how can it be free) I went back and thried again. I got another download, again no charge. The first was called Vuescan, the second was called Vuescan 1. So I followed the directions and got a cute little rotating colored circle that just keeps on rotating. And with the scanner turned on and plugged into the USB port, it says it can't find any scanner. :bang:

Any ideas?

I had the same problem as CLE-RF on my tiger 10.5 the scanner kept freezing i finaly gave up and bought a nikon 5000

Firstly, you downloaded two copies of VueScan, hence the "VueScan 1" designation of the second file. (Your computer had to call it something other than just "VueScan.")

Secondly, downloading VueScan is free, but it only works in demo mode until you buy a license key-code to unlock it. Demo mode allows you to try it out, but the resulting scans will be obviously watermarked.

Frankly, I think $40 for scanning software that works well with a ton of scanners, including many long-abandoned by their manufacturers (thus no software support), and gets regular updates/bug fixes (and whose creator will listen to your complaints if you're having a problem with your setup) is a screaming bargain. I put in my bucks long ago, and have never regretted it.

Yes, now I understand about why it calls it "vuescan 1." When it wouldn't work with the Konica/Minolta Scan Dual IV, I switched over to the Epson 2450, I got pretty much the same thing--the same little colored wheel--except now it's asking me to purchase it, which it didn't do before. However, if there's a demo mode, I think I should try it to make sure it's really going to work. Should the demo mode work with my scanners? Or do I misunderstand?
 
Reboot, plug the scanner's USB to your Mac, turn on the scanner, launch the software. Are you sure the software is installed in your applications folder and that it isn't just the Disk Image? You need to double-click it to decompress it....

The scanner needs to be on before you launch the software.

I just Googled VueScan and 10.6 and there might be a compatibility problem with them, at least until the software is fixed by VueScan. Check the VueSan forums and help?

Frank, I did all that, and it still doesn't work. I guess it's in the applications folder. It shows up down on the "dock" platform under "downloads" and when I click it ( I double clicked it like you said) the icon for it appears by itself on the dock. Does that mean it's in the applications folder? It does come up with a window when I click it. The window has buttons for "Input", film type, print, etc. But when I get to the last step, that's when it says it can't find a printer.

SHould I just bite the bullet and buy the software? Or should it already be working in demo mode?
 
Rob: When you downloaded it, you should have double-clicked on the icon for a window to open with the application inside. Then, mouse over the "Macintosh HD" icon and double-click on that. A window should open: on the left side you should see a row of large icons, including one marked Applications. Just grab the VueScan app in its window and drag it over the Applications icon, then release.

(The reason for this somewhat drawn-out procedure is that VueScan, at least on the Mac, doesn't use an installer: the application is ready-to-use, but it helps having it in its proper place.)

A quicker way is to just drag the VueScan icon over the "Macintosh HD" icon and drop it there. For anal-retentive Mac-ies like me, not the neatest way to go, but it'll work

OK so where do I find this "Macintosh HD" icon? Is it too late to do any of this, now that I already downloaded? I do have a Vuescan icon in my "downloads" icon in the bottom row, next to the wastebasket.
