DSLR - size or definition ?

For me, the size and weight of lenses are more significant than the size and weight of the body. I use a D700 with battery grip, and if I want light and easy to carry, i just put the 50mm 1.8 AF lens on it. The Nikon strap (i hate the fact that it has nikon d700 on it, but it is the best strap i have ever used) never slips off my shoulder, and distributes the weight so nicely that it is as if the camera isn't there. The benefit to this over a leica is that when the camera is on my shoulder, it doesn't bounce around, but the downside is that it isn't as good for wrapping the strap around one's wrist and just holding it all day. If i wanted to reduce the size and weight even further, i could remove the battery grip, but I use the vertical shutter release too much to warrant that.

On the other hand, put an 80-200 f2.8D on it, and the same whippy camera becomes a heavy, massive portraiture machine, which is fine, because I like the weight when it comes to that kind of shooting. It becomes a photographic rifle instead of the photographic pistol that the camera is with the diminutive 50mm on it. Granted, it is never a photographic derringer, but that is fine, because I can do a lot more with the d700 a lot faster than I could with my Leicas.

Pentax K20D and 35mm/f2.8 Macro Limited! Nice size and beautiful photos! (Although the K7 is even smaller and shoots better!)

My RZ67 is the heaviest of my rigs. When I carry it I drop into a bag that is just big enough to accept it and a few small items. The strap is a one designed for the camera and makes it very comfortable to use. Yes its heavy but god can it make sharp images!!

And lately I have started to use a D90 and its a feather compared to Mamyia,

Had an Olympus E-3 but eventually could not stand the lack of ability to manually focus through the viewfinder.
So I sold all, dug out the old Hasselblad with it's x4 WLF and bought a OM-1n with 50 f/1.2 : I'm happy again.

The Hassy with a single lens seems smaller than the E-3 with 25 f/1.4 and it's best not to mention the size and weight with the 14-35 f/2 zoom.
The OM-1n is tiny and has the largest VF magnification of any 35mm SLR camera :D

I have one of those kits too. A few years ago I went crazy buying a bunch of stuff for it (tele, and wide angle lens, AE prism, polaroid back). I don't think I realized how large it was. A nice compact digicam in the pocket almost does it for me now.
