Not as much as a real macro lens on an SLR. I've seen folks quote ratios and numbers and such. It'a about 1:7. The minimum focus distance is 18" (give or take). 18" on my Canon 50mm macro lens says 1:7 on it's magnification scale.

It's a lot better than the usual 3' minimum of rangefinder cameras. Very useful. The DR Summicron is NOT a macro lens.

Two examples

Two examples

The first is the Nikkor 50mm 1.4 at or very close to minimum rangefinder focus distance, EDIT: about 3 feet.

The second photo is the 50mm DR Summicron at 18".

Same plants and same dragonfly.

The Nikkor 50 does focus to 18". However, without benefit of rangefinder coupling like the DR Summicron. 3"? That's bellows territory! 😀
