DX Lenses

AFAIK no auto-focus but there is the Zeiss ZF Distagon 25mm/f2.8 which is manual focus and manual aperture. That would give you an equivalent 37.5mm, creeping toward 40mm admittedly. Around $825 new, $650 used. There's a used one for sale on eBay now.

Unfortunately, Nikon does not make a 24mm prime that will autofocus on the d60. Your best option is to get the autofocus 24mm f2.8, even though you will have to focus manually. In the event that you ever get a full frame dslr, or any film nikon slr, the 24mm will work on it. Since you are looking at getting in to rangefinders, there is no time like the present to start getting used to manual focusing. there is a manual focus 24mm f2, but it is twice as expensive used as the 24mm 2.8 AF lens. my next statement is one that is generally pretty hotly contested, but i am of the opinion that it is a good thing to avoid dx lenses, as lenses are purchases that are meant to last decades, and i am not convinced that the dx format will last that long.

With a 24mm lens, why should anyone need auto-focusing unless one is shooting close-ups most of the times ? Use ZONE FOCUSING instead. It is faster under real life picture taking conditions. Although for those who are not familiar with it, a little practice will be needed. But that would be another good reason for buying an old fashion lens that has a depth of field scale etched on the lens barrel---not one of those newer lenses that do not even have an aperture ring.

And yes, Merkin, I agree with you 100% with regards to the DX lens. Buy lenses for the long term, digital cameras becomes obsolete within 3 -5 years. In the future when full size cameras become for affordable, those will become the mainstream at least for the serious amateurs. Therefore try to buy lenses that can be used on both film and digital in the interim.

Actually I'm sticking with DX. I have a great DX dSLR that's perfect for my needs and by the time it breaks the Leica M10 or M11 will probably be here and I'll get one of those. 😉 Actually I think at least if you're a Nikon user DX may be around for a while. The 35/1.8 DX took everyone by surprise but it has been flying off the shelves. DX is more than enough for a huge number of people and Nikon wants to serve that market, and that little lens is absolutely amazing for what it costs.
