I'm in Boston for a couple of days and a few of you guys directed me to this place down by the waterfront (for now--they are moving to Waltham next month).
Wow--maybe the best photo shop I've ever been to. They say they will probably actually have more vintage stuff after they move--anyway, great staff, nice selection, very old school. Cole Belamy, the dude with the bowtie and goatee, is about the nicest person ever--did you know that he and his brother were the first children ever to eat fish sticks? His father worked for Gorton's (the original fisherman was "a real *******" says Cole) and they experimented on the fish stick at his house.
but I digress. I actually got my hands on a ZI for the first time, and the M9 as well. Both are great. I couldn't believe how incredible the ZI finder is--I had my M7 with me and compared them. Simply incredible! Overall I prefer the feel of the M7 (esp. the film advance), but I was really impressed with the ZI.
Anyway thanks for the recommendation--it was a nice walk and well worth it.

? Curious asterisk attack. To be Illegitimate now is not acceptable? Lots out there will disagree. In fact, it may be becoming fashionable. :-D

Now that could be my Decline and Fall. I didn't know this. Waltham is much easier to get to for me than the Boston location.
She Who Must Be Obeyed imposed a camera moratorium, however, after I won the $300 Leica the other day (not here yet BTW). And, as always, she is right.

Still, she's gotta admit, a $300 Leica is a good thing.

I have never felt wind like that in my life. It is weirdly warm out, but seriously, I am staying in Beacon Hill and the wind nearly knocked me over in the middle of the street this evening.

I visited our son last October...he goes to school in Cambridge but lives just across the River in Boston...I wish I had known about this store while I was there...
The one store I did check-out was Calumet (Cambridge)...I was very disappointed...it was sooooo small and didn't have much of anything...But I will say that the one salesman I talked to was very friendly and in no rush to get me out...
I forgot to add...It snowed while I was there...

Glad you liked Levine's!
Cole is a very nice and charming bloke. He was almost apologetic when he was separating $$$$$ from me for my MP3...
I've bought quite a lot of equipment there and I'm pretty upset that they're moving to Waltham as I live close to downtown. Mike Bard, one of the co-owners is also a good person, he used to work at Newtonville Camera in the suburbs and only bought into Levine's a few years ago but they seem to be doing well. Sadly I won't get to the Waltham location that much, if at all.
Don't talk about the weather here - ugh!!

Yes that's a very typical expression too - nice shot! I think one of the upsides to Levine's moving to Waltham is that they're going to be open on Saturdays and that may make quite a difference to their revenue. I hope so anyway for their sake, that store has always had a kind of old-fashioned ambiance about it and I hope they keep that in Waltham too. They're completely up to date with all of the digital equipment and courses in PP software and so on but still look like an old fashioned camera store with the stacks of equipment all over the place.
