When are they going to get off their can??
Or, did I miss the announcement and rollout.
I guess it's just like all the other rumors.... I'll look at it when it hits the market. All the specs will be set in place, and I will then know what I'm being asked to purchase.
Now, about that Holga digital... anyone seen one. Is it going to be FF and will it compete with the M9 on ISO and lens abberation.
You missed the announcement.

I think the EP1 was probably brought out at the moment it was to coincide with the Pen anniversary. The rough edges were an unfortunate by-product of that rush. Maitani might not have approved. The camera was still a semi-breakthrough in design though, and I've seen a surprising number of them around NYC, typically on the wrists of female (a market sector with low numbers in standard-sized DSLRs) Japanese tourists.
Is built in flash such a big deal? Funny to hear it mentioned so frequently on a rangefinder forum. Not a critical statement - just that I am surprised at how frequently it is mentioned.
Panasonic must be looking at all these complaints about viewfinders & flash and wondering how the G1 got forgotten so quickly. And Olympus must be thinking: wow, we got them to forget the G1 (and even the GF1, except for that d@mn 17mm lens!) without even breaking a sweat - excellent work, boys.
I suspect that Olympus is actually pretty happy with the way things are going.

I'm surprised there's nothing about AF speed...that was people's main complaint with the E-P1, right?
I'm really digging the GF1 but would love to someday get my hands on an m4/3 body with RF styling and a built-in high-resolution EVF.

Here's the digital Holga:

There is no formal announcement at all, so no info at all, yet. It was just confirmed that the announcement would be on 11/5 in the past 24 hours. Oly will leak more detail prior to the announcement in time. A little at a time to keep everyone interested.
Faster AF and a higher resolution LCD would make the EP-2 very formidable.
I think the statements which were made that EP-1 owners are screwed by Oly because they have introduced a new camera so fast is foolish. At the time the EP-1 was released it was known that another body would be out by the end of the year. So, people bought or didn't with that knowledge.

As an owner of the E-P1, these are the things I'd like to see:
#1: Less shutter lag! It takes way to long between pressing the button (even without AF) to the picture being taken. This is a much worse problem than the AF speed. The camera is totally useless for street photography even in MF mode.
#2: A better optical viewfinder. Yes, optical. The current one barely fits the hotshoe and the image is dull and quite small.
#3: A smaller and faster lens. Why the heck did they have to make the lens so large in diameter when the actual aperture and lens elements are so tiny? In that barrel, you could probably cram a 17/1.4 lens.
#4: A button lock for everything. I don't know how many times the little wheel has changed my settings when I use the camera with the monitor off, resulting in bad exposures.

Being an early adopter comes with a price.
Yes, a lock for all of these stupid ass buttons. That alone would make the 42 million confusing options so much better because my fat fingers will not mistakenly change the settings to the M8 Magenta mode or some other rediculous thing.

the EP1 does indeed need a button lock, I am constantly changing white balance by mistake or one of the other button presses of that infernal control ring.

Looks like all they did was install a bloated hot shoe with some extra pins to support the EVF and external mic. I could care less about eather feature. Hopefully, new firmware will also be released for the EP-1 to fix the slow auto focus and give us a focusing scale. What they really need is a toaster accessory that way I can shoot and eat toast at the same time, and with a cellphone.

Waiting on Maitani
I've been searching RFF for threads that slam the M8/8.2/9, R-D1, M2/3/4/5, Bessa R2/3/4, etc for not having a built-in flash ...

I like pictures
I'd rather have one camera with the flash for when I need it rather than having an external one. the e-p1 is to replace my GRD as well... just a nice convenience to have. I don't use my RF for night shooting anyway... that's what I have the XA + flash for.

The big downside of digital photography. When did the EP-1 go on sale? Wasn't it only this spring? That's a fast cycle.
I don't think it's an upgrade, it's meant to be a different camera sold along side the e-p1. Olympus has already said quite a few times that they're going to make multiple m4/3 bodies.

I'm pretty sure it's a no.

Most previous external viewfinders have fit into the flash shoe but typically run the electronic/data connection through a small port just below the flash shoe. The flash shoe merely holds the viewfinder securely, while the port connects the finder to the data coming through the lens.
In this shot of the EF1 and EP1, you can see that the Panasonic has this port while the Olympus does not. That would seem to indicated no is the answer, unless there is some other system that Olympus has already built into the EP1.
