Other Areas E U R O M E E T - 2013, early discussion...

i agree about the sarajevo comments, we haven't proven to be overly subtle and considerate when moving as a group. also, the "group" thing is definitely more about the meeting, hardly about the shooting, imo. i suppose most people who were in london and istanbul would agree.

Off course you're right about "vivent", thanks.
But why "-métriques" with an e accent aigu?
doesn't it have something to do with "mètre" - avec e accent grave?
Thanks in advance.

mètre => métrique, (it's pronounced "mätre", but "meetriek" not "mätriek") french likes to twist things around. just as in "sphère" and "sphérique".

hy, I am from Zadar; Croatia, but now I live in Zagreb...I think that Sarajevo is one of best solution of euromeet. It is city with history, meeting point of 3 religion, 3 nations. Everyone who was in Sarajevo said that it is a city with soul. Street and life photography in Sarajevo gives sense.

And you do not have to be afraid of people there. It is much different place than London or Istanbul but it makes Sarajevo much interesting to shoot.

I hope that you will choose Sarajevo because than I will come too :)

Budapest is veeery beautiful town but I thnik it is not much interesting for street shooting

oh i don't think it's about danger, really. most of the people who were in berlin returned home unharmed, and that means something ;) also, 30 geezers such as these are scary enough not to get into serious trouble.

what about zagreb, anyway?

Zagreb is a beautiful town. You can see my blog and most of that pics are taken in Zagreb. It is "one culutre" place so it makes it less interesting than Sarajevo IMHO. But maybe for you, who comes from other parts of the world, it will be more interesting than for me

What I nice to hear another meeting. I will try to participate where ever it is.

yes, i'll be in istanbul for the summer semester 2013. you're most welcome to visit, but as i do not have a place to live yet, i'm not making any promises as to being a valid couch surfing option.

Come on Simon we can always arrange a couch ;). In the worst case we have a couch at darkroom :)

I agree totally with Simon. The main idea is "meeting" for me, too.

I see, it's télémètre but télémétrique ;) - it's kinda weird because French usually twists things around in order to sound better, in this case it's rather the other way around IMO :)

BTW: Sarajevo sounds good too, but Prague could include a visit to Foma in Hradec Kralove

I hope the meet accepts new "outsiders" who've been wanting to join for years.

I am also curious how this got stuck in the Benelux forum, maar kan ook in NL's schrijven, geen probleem hoor. I started off the thread in General Interest I thought, certainly not in Benelux anyway.

The weather thing might be overstated, as we have been rained on in the warm and sunny cities of (at least) Barcelona and Istanbul ;)

I fully agree that dozens of photographers are not a seriously stealthy street posse by any means, though I seem to get lost regularly anyway (maybe getting a Billingham would help with that?). In effect, it is a social catch-up and networking, with some photo-tourism and project ideas mixed in... sort of.

What is the weather like along the Adriatic at that time of year? And what precisely is 'that time of year' - are there, for example, school holidays when family duties will prevent people attending?

Let me propose spanish Valencia - that city really has soul. From narrow streets of all kind to that bizzar opera/museum. I have visited in few years back nut my time there was way too short (wedding of a friend). I would not hesitate to go back. I would probably prefer it to Barcelona for a photo-trip.

Hello,

Some things to consider

- Can wherever you are going 'take' the number of people?
- Is it more about the meeting or the snapping?

The past few years have seen the meet grow in popularity and size. This is great for meeting many cool people, but, it is no longer possible to duck in to a cafe on whim or fit in some small alleyway / dodgy building for some snapping action.

I would advise against Sarajevo (Alkis gave good reasons), I think it would be unpleasant to go on a photo-safari where the wounds are so fresh.

Alkis put it rather eloquently "Well, that's the thing, innit? You get 20 blokes with the same beige billingham bag (and I 've got two of those) photographing something , the scene gets pulverized into smithereens. Let's just say we meet to see old friends, for the camaraderie, the food, the drink and photograph in a sort of by the way manner. It could be anywhere. Then at the end of the evening we'll all hold hands and tell tall tales. Or sing photography's hymn." I think that would work.

PS Who stuck this in the Benelux forum?

It's a divine hint.

How about Amsterdam? 't Was a close second to Istanbul last year...

:D

April may?

I do hope things work out so I can join. I will be back in Belgium around that period so I keep my fingers crossed.

@Gabriel, it would be great to meet you. Like your work.

We have to kick the hat a bit further down the road, the sooner we name a place the cheaper the flights. I hesitate to drop names -- depending on time/place it might prove to be a stretch for me to come -- so all I'll say is that April or early May is better for bachalau and piri-piri than goulash  Oh, oysters with Guinness are not half-bad either :D

.

So do I! It's been...years...since I've written to RFF. I'm living in Innsbruck now and it'd be great to see some of your faces!

For what my opinion is worth, Prague sounds like a splendid idea.

There was another thread started with Euromeet questions, see HERE, but this one here already has some more discussion in it, so maybe we can keep this one alive.

Regarding the timing of the trip, is there a reason why 27/28 April is a particularly good idea, or some other weekend? We would be looking at some time around then so do people have children's school vacations (etc. etc.) which they have to plan around? If so, when?
