Nikkor. What else?
According to the Cameraquest website, the earliest S are marked "Made In Occupied Japan" imprinted in small lettering on the back leather. Production is supposed to be slightly more than 300 cameras, with production serial numbers approximately from 6094001 to 6094325.
Here is one currently for sale with serial number 6094513
http://www.ebay.es/itm/Nikon-S-Made...matoriale_e_professionale&hash=item484c7672a5
(no connection to the seller)
Even if the serial numbers were not always consecutive, this one might indicate that there were more 7 digit cameras than the approximately 300 cameras that have been accounted for.

... likes film again.
It looks to me the seller mentioned "first 500 cameras" (just a wild guess by me) but I could not detect the "Made in Occupied Japan" stamp.

The stamp is visible on the last picture (a detail shot of the back), but you have to look close.

Look at the wear on the pressure plate – that one has had few rolls of film through it!

Hello,
I'm a user of RF cameras of the Contax (and Kiev) series.
Less than one week ago, I've bought a Nikon-S outfit (body w/50mm-1,4; 35-2,5; 105-2,5 and two sights for the wideangle and the tele). This is my very first Nikon RF, besides a 135-3,5 with the "C" I use on the Contax.
The body needs to have the RF be calibrated both vertically and horizontally; otherwise, it's in very fine condition.
My S has the serial no. 6095357 (that is just 844 pieces later the MIOJ one). The synch shoes are black.
I live in Italy, not far from Milan, where the MIOJ S is located: maybe I will go and take a look at it.
Best wishes,
E.L.

When I first saw the price, I thought "Wow!", but then realised the way European numbers are displayed, and figure it as reasonable (my mind added another zero on the end). It's definitely a user, but has been sitting around somwhere damp for a while. The tripod socket looks a bit caved in, and those are worse bumps than the ones on my IIa. Still, if I had the money...

So this one is very close to the highest known number, only 15 numbers below it.
I see it has been sold. I think it was a good price, even with the bad back.

something I forgot to mention in the write up is that the MIOJ numbers are NOT consecutive!
MOIJ and non MIOJ bodies are intermixed in the late S bodies, likewise the red sync posts and black sync posts.
Nikon was just aiming to fill orders and move product. Keeping things all nice and tidy for future Nikon collectors was NOT part of the Nikon's business plan.

Look at the smaller rewind knob but also look at the earlier style shutter ring guard, no red synch either. There seem to be no MIOJ markings on the back leather but with a replacement lens, one wonders if the back is original.
