meet Natalya and her mother doing some gardening. They fled Ukraine after the war started, found place to live in the Neighborhood of Friendship. After work Natalya spend hours turning a small piece of land with poor soil to a field full of beautiful flowers and giving huge crops of fruits and vegetables. Her optimism is contagious.

The question is where does Eastern Europe start? Where‘s the exact center of the continent?
But good idea! I‘ll contribute a bit later.

Let's agree on Germany and be done with it. Better to avoid Geography discussions and look at the images and enjoy. And yes, please post.

I saw almost all of Eastern Europe decades ago, when I was young and had more money and the going for me was good. I enjoyed it, but Iin old age no longer look to Europe and travel more to Asia which I can still afford.

Back then I traveled with a Rolleiflex TLR and a Nikkormat and tons of film (back then it was affordable). I took many fewer photographs which I now regret. As well my 120 negatives from that time have all "gone walkabout" as the Aussies say. I know I still have them somewhere, but the Big If is, where?

Friends tell me the EE countries are still a budget traveler's paradise, prices are reasonable and people are friendly. As they were back then. But the airfares are too expensive for me, and the long travel would put me to bed for at least two days. So - no more.

Many of these images brought back happy memories. It's good to know the people there still have spirit and hope and look to a better future.

Czechoslovakian Zetor 25 from 1947

usually Polish people, especially on the countryside, are quite suspicious of strangers and don't like their pictures taken... but you are not a stranger when you are a fellow petrolhead. Also I was sporting a Mamiya C33 with 105/3.5 so it was an instant conversation starter.

with Via Baltica almost finished it takes 3 hours to get from Warsaw to Lithuanian border, good enough for a Sunday trip.
too bad the modern world looks the same everywhere.

It's puzzling that as a Pole who comes from “eastern europe” and is familiar with these landscapes, clothes, faces and behaviors-I watch this thread with more interest than threads about Asia, America or other countries.
This is the power of photography, that what I know, I can see shown differently by different photographers.
Great thread- and a great lesson in how someone in "my everyday life", sees something unusual.
