I woke up this morning checked out "my ebay" and realized i had won a bid on a Canon 7 body with Canon 50mm f/1.2 ( including all caps, and a half case w/ straps) for $355.01

i just placed a bid on it on a whim last night, for fun, and look what happened, i won. lol ebay works in mysterious ways.

oh and just a word of forewarning, im going to have a rediculous ammount of questions in no time flat.

get ready.

;)

ill post pics of her when i get her

My latest Canon 7 w 50mm F1.8, near mint, was $230. Someone had pushed on the frosted glass window and the meter stopped working. Yup, the window pushed in and bent the little light baffle under the meter needle blocking it and preventing the 35mm framelines from coming into position. 1HR fix. And the ITTIEST-BITTIEST dab of superglue to hold the frosted window in place. Close when dry.

OK, Brian -- Canon 7 meter question here. How accurate are your 3 canon 7 meters? Are the low and high range settings at the same level of accuracy for a given body?

In comparing my recently aquired Canon 7 meter with my other selenium meters (Canon meter for VI-T, Leicameter MC) and my Voigtlander VC meter, it appears that on the low light range, the meter is reading too low (I need to close down a stop or two from what the meter says), and for the high range the reading is too high (I need to open up a stop from the meter setting).

I know it's common for selenium meters to lose sensitivity over time (as is consistent with the low range readings), but the high range error is in the opposite direction of what I'd expect.

Expecting lost shots because I forget which direction to correct for which range...

The meters on my Canon 7 cameras are fairly accurate, probably as good as they ever were. I calibrated the newest one after putting it back together, ie tightened up the shutter speed dial to agree with an F2AS. I can get the same reading on the high and low settings in the "overlap" areas. These are when the meter is topping out on low and then set the meter to high.

Low Setting, shot with F1.4 Nikkor LTM wide-open on the Canon 7:

High Setting, same camera, Canon 50mm F1.4 .

Selenium meters take an average reading, and I often read off of my hand in the same orientation as the subject. But the meter is pretty accurate, as good as it ever was.

Since my low/high settings are wrong in different directions, calibrating by moving the dial would make one closer at the expense of the other. I'll need to do some more comparisons in differing light conditions, but I'll probably have to deal with either remembering the offset for each range or using an external meter.

One more Canon 7 question: Turns out the frame counter doesn't work. It's stuck on 'S' -- is this a common problem and/or easy thing to fix?

Here is the site for the free Canon 7 repair manual. I used fine needle nosed pliers for a spanner. I have three, and sold a fourth, canon 7. None had problems with the counter. Chances are it is a simple thing plugged up by Oil. I just fixed a Rollieflex SL35 that had a stuck reset key.

As for the meter being in different positions for the Hi/Lo setting, I can only think that a resister has gone bad (?) (or was replaced by one with the wrong value) in the hi/lo switch itself. I'll look through the manual this weekend for some hints.
