Ebay, most times I do well, this time , not so much..

It's always a bummer when your camera is delivered and turns out to be a dud.

I've actually had horrible luck with Ebay camera purchases. Easily 80% of the cameras I buy from there that are described as "working" arrive with major functional issues. I now only buy there under the assumption that the camera will not be working, no matter what the seller states.

Ugh, bait and switch scumbags are the worst. Thank god I've never been burned by that. But then, I also on principle don't buy anything from someone with at least a 100 feedback and 99,8 or better rating.

Judging by that camera's faults, you'd almost think the guy found it in a swamp with a metal detector 😀

trying to understand the seller move here...
Maybe he has a few of these, some are junk. When the reached price isn't high enough, he may send the junk instead. The loss is the shipping cost vs the hit on a bad sale.
Or am I being paranoid again? 🙂

One thing I noticed, after I got the refund, is that the serial numbers on the camera and the lens did not match those in the photos of the ebay ad.
So now I think the seller knew what he had was trash, but used someone else's images and tried to pass it off to a sucker. Thing is, even if you had absolutely no idea about cameras you would know this was broken.
And the net outcome for the seller was that he was out $12 that it cost to ship it.

This is the ebay ad #, which you can use to pull it up:

271734945576

You can see in the third photo the serial number is 512XXXX, while in my photo at the top of this thread shows the serial # 53023XXX

The lens is probably fine. I've got lenses with more fungus in them than that and they work fine. I just set them on the windowsill for a few days when I get them. Haven't yet had a single case of a clean lens catching fungus from another lens.

It had a lot more fungus in it than that. When I shone a light through it it lit up all spidery webs. I've got plenty of clean lenses that I did not want to deal with this mess.

On the upside, my nephew had a blast today using one of my old Nikon F cameras with a Nikkor 50 1.4 SC Auto lens. First time he has ever shot film, this will be interesting!

Happened in shipping perhaps???

Happened in shipping perhaps???

I bought this with the intention that my 11 yr old nephew could come along on photographic excursion with me, and shoot film as all the cool kids are doing now (I am serious, the kids in his school are into film).

The ebay ad said "great condition, no visible scratches..". Needless to say, I've started the return process.

Do you think the shipper did this? By any chance?

Dam post office.

Unless the shipper also changed the serial #s on the lens and camera, I don't think so...
(the serial #s of the actual item did not match the ones in the ebay ad)
