I'm thinking of sending it to Steve Gandy Because I do not want Sherry to hold onto this gem for 3 months...I am very anxious to use it. I emailed Sherry to see what her turn around time is but I suspect it is quite a long time. Steve can get it CLA'd in about 3-4 weeks for only $195.00.

Sherry has never taken 3 months for me. She's CLAed 4 or 5 of my Leica m's and the turn around was always around a month.

Youxin ye seems to be the go-to guy for the classic M cameras (m2/m3/m4) Fast turn around and really reasonable prices. Haven't used him myself, but I wouldn't hesitate based on others' feedback.

I can't say enough about how mint this camera is. The film spool, the bottom plate, and the film plate as well as the vulcanite, film door paint, and everything else on the body is brand spanking new mint condition. Never seen a Leica as nice as this. It belongs in a museum but I intend on using it!

Congrats! I got the DAG "3/4" CLA for my M2, and it is buttery smooth. Take lots of pictures!

I emailed Sherry in late December asking about turnaround time, she quickly gave me a very detailed reply, saying to expect about three weeks. Ended up only taking a week for her to finish it, which was a nice surprise. She only takes checks, so keep that in mind as you'll have to wait for your payment to arrive before the camera is returned, but I should still have mine back sooner than the quoted 3 weeks.

In that case do not play with the camera. It should be lubricated. When you use a dried up camera you can ruin the gears and you'll end up with a roughness forever.

It should not take Sherry anywhere near 3-4 months. She is also arguably the best and would love reviving this gem. I can say she has done great timely work for me and others I know. Share some photos when you get it back.

She looks unbelievable. Send her to Sherry and use her every day. Sherry does much quicker turn around than you think. Ask her when you can expect it, add a week max and all will be well. Great job of sniping on a WONDERFUL Leica.

I contacted both DAG and Sherry and DAG responded to me first with a reasonable quote and a turn around of about 4 weeks. Since he got to me first I'll ship it off to him.

Nice, and it came with the quick-load kit, which some of us like.
And it is best to call Sherry if you ever need her help. She's not great with email. I've never had anything from her take more than 3 weeks.

I've had several awful experiences with DAG. Unlike Sherry he far under quotes time. So if he said 4 weeks that means you'll have to threaten him after 8 to get it done and then he rushes and jacks everything. Sherry is the only one who I'll let touch my Leicas.

I thought DAG had the worst reputation here for tardiness. There have been several threads here about him--not a good idea.

Don is one of the best at what he does. His skills have a lot of overlap with Sherry and where they don't (tweaking stuff to perform somewhat unnatural acts) he is wonderful. I've used him on a body, several lenses and purchased some parts from him. While speedy he wasn't I asked him to perform some magic on some very old glass, which he did. He ran into some problems and I know it took him more time than he first estimated but did not increase the cost.
I have not trouble recommending him, as with all artistens , you need to understand how they want to be dealt with. Stuff that he's working on for other folks might take longer than expected. Be respectful, ask how he wants to communicate, get paid, etc. I haven't had the chance to me him but I hope I can some day, he seems like a great guy who is lucky enough to be doing what he loves.

I phoned Sherry and left a detailed message and she didn't return the call. I also emailed her as well as Don and Don responded within a day. I would prefer to do business with someone who responds in a timely manner and so far Don is that person. I suppose I will need to be reassured about his schedule. Thanks everyone for your assistance.
